Dolly Parton is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

That’s just….great. I mean…. I like Dolly. I really do. She’s had a tremendous country music career, some solid film parts and she’s a very nice person in all aspects. I couldn’t possibly fault her. But…but, through no fault of her own (she resisted), she’s now in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Joe Cocker isn’t in the R & R HOF. Steppenwolf isn’t in the R & R HOF. Dolly is. As you can see, this bugs me a bit. Fortunately I can shrug it off fairly easily because I had very little respect for the R & R HOF prior to this. The arbitrary selection process has been cursed by many rock artists including some who are themselves inductees. It’s a questionable honor but congrats anyway, Dolly. You are a class act.

it’s a never ending joke, Dolly is awesome for kicking herself out.

While I think its wonderful that she has been acknowledged for her achievements, its the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, not the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Its the same as some folk singer who wins a Grammy for best rock song.

So that’s why Islands in the stream was on the radio on the way to work. 80’s station, so might be just coincidence

Prog-rock bands such as Jethro Tull, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and King Crimson have also been overlooked. And there's a lot more.

I found this interesting list on the interwebs:

HOF is more of a business than anything else. Most of its decisions are based on maximizing ticket sales to the tourists visiting Cleveland. Dolly Parton gets in because she is more of a draw than those other acts. That's capitalism at its best.

It's not about the music, it's about the money!

Ya know, my personal favorite performer, singer/songwriter John Prine, was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2 or 3 years ago. I’ve seen Prine in concert several times. I’ve followed him since 1971 when I stumbled across his first album and was forever hooked. He was tragically taken from us by covid 2 years ago. Now as much as I love John Prine, he has no more business being in the R & R HOF than Dolly Parton and I’m glad he wasn’t inducted. That’s just not his kinda group. RIP, John.

Since when she sung rock and roll? :person_facepalming:

If she did, I must have missed it.

Jethro Tull won a Grammy in Heavy Metal over Metallica so they already received their gift from the Award Gods

HOF let the Go Go’s in, that’s all ya need to know, the sheet is FIXED

And Kansas. KANSAS! Carry on my wayward son, really, no soup for you?

so many huge sellers not in… Foreigner, Styx, Boston, Scorpions… and my personal picks would be Mark Knopfler (w/out Dire Straits), Phil Collins, Don Henley, Sting, Rainbow, Toto, Triumph, Pat Benatar, Alan Parson Project, Supertramp, UFO… argh why waste our breaths!!!

I understand eminem was also put in . Rock and roll?

Or Not

R&RHOF needs the money.

All “awards” are shiite.

Maybe WASP will win the CW HOF for “I’m Blind In Texas”…

(Hey, the cowboys have taken my eyes!)

Dolly - no, Many others - no, Thin Lizzy - yes

She deserves credit for resisting this award because she knew she wasn't rock and roll and didn't want to take away from others being inducted .

After finding out that lots of "non rock and roll" artists are in the R&RHOF she graciously accepted the honor .

That girl is one class act .

Lots of deserving people haven't or probably won't ever be inducted but that's no reason to criticize anyone who has been .

Dolly’s babies were always easy to pick out in the nursery

They were the ones with stretch marks on their mouth

Good lungs. How could you keep her out.

Yeah! Folks do stuff when they’re young and in their primes.

When they get old, they hold banquets, and give each other awards.

(Spoken by an old dude!)
