My family got a 2016 Toyota Corolla LE today

My family got a "new" used car today.  :THUMBS-UP:

(It's new to us, anyway.)

It's a Certified Used Toyota.

Those generally sell for more than your average used cars because they have to pass a bunch of tests.

Our mechanic told us to get a certified used car.

It's a 2016 Toyota Corolla LE with less than 54,000 miles, which is pretty low mileage for a 2016 car.

We were looking for a 2015 (or newer) Corolla because the Corolla was redesigned in 2014.

The car has some very minor damage, mostly near the rear passenger corner, but it's in excellent condition overall for a used car.

It has never been in a wreck, nor has it ever been a rental or a "courtesy" car.

When shopping for this car, we only looked at cars that offered a free report from Carfax or somewhere similar.

The Carfax report looked perfect.

After all fees, it came to under $20,000 which is an excellent deal considering what we got.

The exterior is sort of a dark shiny blue, and the color looks amazing.

We didn't care too much about the exterior color, but the fact that it looks great is a bonus.

The interior is ash, which is nice because our summers are brutal.

As many of you know, we had to get a new car because our old car got totaled.

Please do not discuss the car crash in this thread.

If anyone asks any questions about the car crash, I'll probably just ignore those posts.

Once the legal case is finished, I'll create a new thread that will be kinda like an "epilogue" of the car crash.  :-)

Very nice, car looks brand new!

There is one problem though, there appears to be a silhouette of a man etched into the bumper on the rear driver’s side. Big Smile

Those etchings are a premium extra, but they make the car look better.

While we were without a car of our own, we rented three different cars.

Two were Toyota Corollas, and one was a Nissan Sentra.

They all had black interiors, which is not practical in the desert during the summer.

It's a good thing we bought this 2016 Corolla because we could only rent the other cars at a somewhat reasonable rate for a short amount of time.  $)

What does a new Corolla go for now? 20 for used sounds high to me but who knows today.

Seems to be a seller’s market for used cars at the moment due to shortages of new cars. Just bought a car on behalf of a relative and had to negotiate hard to get even a small discount. I also see that rental car fleets are really tight, my rental for the end of August in FL is much more expensive than past years.

Yep, it is a seller's market right now.

If we would have bought our "new" used car about three years ago, it would have been much cheaper.

Well, the cost is actually about $18,500 after all fees.

(I didn't know the actual cost yesterday.)

A new 2023 Corolla LE after all fees would be close to $23,000

We didn't save a lot of money by purchasing used, but it might have been very difficult to purchase new (new cars are tough to come by right now), and our budget was pretty tight.

Nice ride. It was pretty expensive for what it is though, bit for something newer and in good shape with low miles that’s not unheard of.

Used cars are insanely expensive right now. I can’t find a clapped out, 200,000 mile 12 year old Ford Ranger for under $7,000, or a used 15 year old Volvo with almost 200,000 miles for 6,000. Even a gas-guzzling 20 year old Chevy Tahoe with 150,000 miles is going for almost 5 grand. These are many thousand cars over blue book. It’s crazy. One of our cars was stolen in October 2021 and we can’t replace it. Too expensive right now.

Can’t imagine anything but sales tax, title and tags. Is that the fees you mention?

I don't know for sure, but those are at least some of the fees.

Also, more expensive cars may have higher insurance fees, but of course I'm not accounting for that in the $18,500.

Well good luck. Corollas have a good rep. You don’t have to worry about salt in the winter rotting the undercarriage so it will last a long time. My 09 only has 60k miles on it and at the rate I drive it will probably outlast me.

Yep, that McDonald's promotion was a good deal.

We should have taken advantage of that deal when we had the chance.

Nuts Facepalm

20000 for an old car Facepalm wait if they give you a full tank of gas then it is probably ok.

Anyways, enjoy the ride. I know it’s impossible to get a new car, and they take advantage of you. because you can’t live without it.

I see it has a touch screen and bluetooth, so you can load up mp3s on a USB stick.

Might sound high but it’s not.

Racoon, you did good man. Those little bests are hard to kill and will rack up huge mileage before they check out. It’s a dead ringer for my older brothers. Color, year, etc. He’s real, real happy with it. I think he said he was getting @36mpg. I bought the 2021 Corolla Hybrid, which piss’s my wife off to no end. (“You can afford any car you want and you get that cheap thing”) I was thinking of the new Corvette but that would have pissed her off even more LOL. I’ll let the neighbors drive the Lexus, BMW and Mercedes as I don’t give a shit about that and can’t stand flushing my hard earned $cratch down the toilet on any depreciating asset.

Anyway, it averages @63 MPG, although right now it’s getting 67mpg on this tank. It’s frighteningly less mpg (low 50’s) when bombing through Utah or Idaho where the freeway speeds are 80MPH but everyone passes you if you only do 80mph. I love that car and it’s going nowhere for now. I told my wife it’s a placeholder for when full automatic driverless arrives and then it’s gone and I’m taking naps in the car as it drives itself.

Paid $21,200 brand new just last Sept 2020(MSRP was in the $25,000 range and it has every extra they had including the $500 Pearl metal flake paint job). Could sell it to a dealer today easy with over 30,000 miles on it for approx $4000 more than I paid, and they in turn would be asking $28,000-$29,000. Car prices are insane. Just sold my 4WD Ford F150 truck for almost what I paid for it to a dealer who sold it to another dealer. I didn’t want to, but it’s crazy not to – especially as I can borrow my wifes jacked up Jeep Wrangler for off road and mountains as she has a car she prefers for regular driving. Crazy stuff this used car business. I suspect it will be well over a year or more till it crashes back to earth and they’re more affordable again.

Congrats on the car, you’ll be real happy with it.
