Hi from Peru

I have been lurking for quite some time, figured I should finally make an account and contribute.

Have liked flashlights for many years, had a couple incandescent and early LED surefires and maglites (I thought it was the best thing out there). In 2019 I discovered enthusiast flashlight brands and bought an Emisar D4S and it was quite a wow moment from the >300 lumen cr123/AA flashlights I owned to a relatively small light with 4000 lumens. Forgot about the hobby for a year or two and went back to look for a new EDC light after my Surefire Backup finally started to die from switch problems and a shattered lens. Decided to buy a D4V2 with the 95cri 4000k SST-20s. Liked it quite a lot and I was hooked!

Thanks to this awesome community, and goodbye to the money in my wallet.

Current collection of flashlights that I can remember, with the “normal” lights first:
Surefire G2 with LED drop-in
Surefire Z3 with P90 incan bulb
Surefire M6 Guardian with the original 500lm xenon bulb.
Surefire EB1 Backup
Surefire HL-1 white/red hat light
Mini-maglite 2xAA incandescent
Project COP 2Mcd rated (probably quite a lot less) incandescent spotlight
Streamlight Scorpion (the original incandescent one)
Fenix E15 keychain light from 2011 with 170lm

Lux-pro LP800 cheap 3xAAA led light that I bought many years ago and recently modded to take 18650 batteries. Has an awful blue CCT around 7500k and disgusting low CRI, probably overdriving its LED. Fairly bright for what it is.

Convoy S2 6W UV
Emisar D4S gray SST20 5000k
Emisar D18 tan SST20 5000k
Emisar D4V2 gray SST20 4000k
Emisar DW4 gray SST20 4000k

+a few Hanklights and a Convoy M2 CULPM1 in the mail.

Hey welcome to BLF!

Welcome!

Helo YBF650, welcome to BLF. You must be the first member from Peru (that I know of).

Your collection sure spans some flashlight era’s. Cling on to your golden oldies, in time they might even become collector’s items. The weak SF switches are a (known) Achilles heel, but some can be replaced by budget parts.

Welcome, YB!

Great lights! Kickin’ in old-school in many cases, I see.

Have you been to Amaru Muru, the time portal cave near Lake Titicaca in your country? They say if you make the three right sounds, it opens up and a door to spacetime can transport you. The locals say it’s real (I doubt, obviously), but I’ve always wanted to visit. It’s one of the best UFO enthusiast places in the world.

Cheers!

Welcome!

Thanks for joining the gang, YBF650!

I don’t plan on ever getting rid of my incandescent lights, even if they drain batteries quickly and give little light. I have a bag full of old “Laser Products” lamps, lots of P60s P90s and P91s, and some of the different type bulbs for the M6. They’ll out-CRI anything on the LED market and have a nice warm tint. I have been wondering if anyone has made a li-ion conversion for the M6 though, since cr123a batteries are quite expensive and rather underpowered.

I definitely want to replace the switch on my old SF backup, but it seems to be glued together on the rear screw retainer. It also has some possible electronic problems and the body is glued together, have not been able to take it apart even with vice grips and I don’t want to risk using heat. I’ll look to see what I can find because my watch case spanner (two thin posts to unscrew the locking rings of lenses) just slips off. Thanks for the idea.

Unfortunately I have never been to that area of the country, had never heard of it but it sounds like a cool place to visit! Maybe I can even make a UFO sighting with a filtered flashlight or laser for someone else to see :stuck_out_tongue:

You’d have a lot of views if you posted it, for sure!

Welcome to BLF YBF650!

It always feels good to have something coming in the mail. :email:
