I would love to be the first person to say "I'll take it", but damn Old Lumens, you're letting that go for way to cheap! Don't sell yourself short like I always do ;)
Ok, I'll take it, but after reading it again, this is a crazy deal! I'm curious about the textured paint and how well it will hold up, but it sure looks cool. Let me know if I'm good to send payment.
Anodizing is a good base for paint. If you just rough it up with sandpaper, it holds paint better than bare metal. I have done many painted lights and it works, but it is like any other paint, it can chip. Any knocks or dings will chip it. Of course, ano gets marks in it if there's dings, so there's no real difference. The paint is Rustoleum textured and there is a clear coat on top of Krylon clear acrylic.
Very nice. This might have to replace my other 1D in my glove box that doesn't quite get to 3 amps using 3xAA (I spent a lot more money on that light, $45 alone just to have it cut down and get a 3xAA -> 1 D adapter).
Machining is expensive. I don’t charge for my labor, since I like to do it (hobby). If I charged for my labor, I would have to sell at CPF, because it would be so expensive.
If I can recoup most of the parts, then it works for me. I already had the reflector and the aluminum, from other builds, that never saw the limelight, so I basically had the light, the emitter, lens and driver in this, plus all the misc stuff that goes into any build.
Well guys, since I already have a 1D mag, I told Old-Lumens that he can put it back up for sale. Just like almost every light I have, I don't really need another 1D (although it is an awesome light). If no one else wants it by the end of the day then it's still mine ;)
I really did not know how fast all this could go. Sort of overwhelming.
I guess it's best to start an "interest thread" for these 1D Maglites. First I will let the new owner get the light so he can give his opinion on it and then I will go from there.
Sorry for all the mass confusion here, it got sort of hectic really fast.
I'll add my name to the list of those that might be interested in a 1D Mag. Actually just a host would be fine by me. Setup for 3AA (or 4AA) or Li-Ion use would be great! I think I'd really like that 1D size.
I'd take one too if you'd ship to Canada (of course I'd pay the difference in shipping)! Definitely a great deal and what looks to be fantastic craftsmanship!
