Convoy S2+ XPL-Hi V2-1A 7135x8 vs Convoy S2+ KW CSLNM1.TG

Hello guys!

I ordered today the Convoy S2+ XPL-Hi V2-1A 7135x8 but i just saw there is also an Osram version. The prices are exactly the same, as you can see.

I also own a C8+ SST40 and an S2+ XML2 V2-1A, 7135x8 with op reflector. I need a flashlight that has the throw of the C8+ and the compact size of S2+ for edc, night walks, etc.

Do you think the XPL-HI is a good choice for these use cases?

Thank you.

Hi

I think:

1. XPL-HI is a good choice for you, I even think you would be happier with more floodlight flashlight, if you need one for edc and night walks. Next time try 519A, 219C, LH351D or GT FC40

2. Osram version will have better throw, more like C8+

3. See No. 1

I like the LH351D due to it’s high CRI (the others have also high CRI i believe) and i see it’s combined with smooth reflectors on the C8 series. I consider a thrower like my C8+ ideal for night walks because it gives me the ability to check 50-100 meters away and it doesn’t bother neighbouring houses, etc. So this might be my next flashlight :-)?

Regarding the Osram version of S2+, do you know if it uses a FET driver? Does this mean that the flashlight will be cooler than XPL HI? I think the 7135 chips convert excessive energy to heat, in order to keep a constant power/voltage level.

Thanks.

1A is cold white. Only thing worse is 1B, which is like the 1A but with a greenish tint.

Mine was more of a aquamarine, like if you look at glass panes edge-on.

Yes, i know. I suppose it will have similar tint to my S2+ XML2 V2-1A’s. The U6-3A (5000-5200K) is unavailable right now and i’m affraid the U6-4C will be too yellow for me. I haven’t tried it though.

Do you mean your S2+ XPL-HI V2-1A?

Do you know how the Osram KW tint compares to the above?

Thank you.

That 5A driver used in the Convoy models is killing the CSLNM1, I’ve had 8 or 9 turn purple and/or fail because the driver is pushing 5.7A. To make matters worse the models that use a 22mm driver are being sold with the 6A driver!. I complained to Simon as a dealer and his suggestion was to just use the 3A driver. This option with the 5A driver should be pulled from the store immediately.

The 5A driver used to operate at 4.8A until a mode group reset bug was discovered, the apparent fix ended up also increasing the current to 5.7A

Lumens with a 4.2A driver I was installing for my customers = up to 700 lumens at 30 seconds

Result using the Convoy 5A driver (5.7A) = as low as 480 at 30 seconds with a very purple hue .

As a solution I’ll be getting the CSLPM1 with this 5A driver or perhaps use the 3A in the S2+

Such a shame Convoy has little interest in sorting this out…

With the reflector, the 4C appears too yellow. Since I got mines, all I could think is “That’s not ~4000K.”, but when I tailstanded/tailstood/whatever it and used ceiling-bounce, the overall color of the room was quite nice. Simple explanation, that tint-shift of the old Crees made the hotspot (edge-light that hit the reflector) too yellow, and the spill (front-emitting light) was too blue. Classic fried-egg beam.

Stick that beastie behind a regular 20mm TIR lens which mixes the entire output to a nice homogeneous blend, and it’s a beautiful “warm sunlight” color.

1B. Greenish from being above the BBL, and bluish from just being CW. Makes perfect sense in hindsight.

No idea. I got lights with 351s, 219s, XP-Ls, those CSI.NYs and GTFOs, etc., and don’t recall in the slightest what’s got what, so I don’t bother to try to keep any of it straight.

Any light that has something objectionable (nasty artifacts like rings, a piss-yellow corona, overly fried-eggy, etc.), I just don’t use ’em.

Don’t worry about it. In a few months, The Next Big Thing will come out and be the new Golden Boy of the LED world. The 219 was The Shiite, then the 351 came out and dethroned it because it had better efficiency than the lowly 219s. Then came the CSIs and whatever, and all of a sudden the 351s were “too green”, and people wanted better throw, more output, blah blah blah. Now the 519 is The Shiite, dedomed even better, and is the current (haha) Holy Grail.

Tomorrow something new and shiny will come out and the 519 will get tossed aside. It’s all key-jangling…

Bah.
