Do glucosamine supplements help with joint pain?

I just started taking it and was wondering if anyone here recommends it for joint pain.

It helps me a lot with the arthritis in my shoulder. It takes a little time to build up in your system before you feel any benefit. Maybe a week or so.

After about six weeks the rice crispies in my knees stopped.

I have been taking glucosamine supplements after dinner for more than two decades. Yes, they have helped reduced joint problems. :+1:

But still need to take good care of what you eat. Consult your doctors. Mine say drink a lot of water, and avoid chicken skin. So, take less of the world famous Singapore chicken rice. :person_facepalming:

Yes, newest formula is glucosamin+chrondroitin+msm, my mother’s joint pains are gone after taking them for about 2weeks to 1 month.
She doesn’t like other supplements I bought for her, but she really praise this joint formula. She told me she actually tried to stop it without telling me, but pains came back after few months. I didn’t know she was doing experiment.
Now I am trying to get her to take high strength fish oil to protect heart and brain.

But many factors can contribute to joint pain. So if it doesn’t work after let’s say one or two months, better consult doctors.

Removing gluten from your diet seems to help a lot of people with inflammation in the joints but its hard to remove wheat from your diet since its very addictive its and almost everywhere.

Yeh, that’s what I was taking for a while… even forgot why. But that Holy Trinity is also what helped mum with all her joint issues.

Fasting is good for inflammation and joint pain because it helps to trigger autophagy which is the bodies process for cleaning damaged cells.

A lot of Westerners health problems are caused by bad diet - too much food period, but also specifically too much sugar and junk food. Then they try to fix the problem with pills

Well that is encouraging to hear. All positive reviews. Thanks.

Yes, I have some big Kirkland bottles of this on a shelf somewhere that I believe I’ll bring down and start taking again. Thanks for the encouragement.

Just ordered some Kirkland with msm from Cosco.

Last time I did research on glucosamine it showed that it is best taken with chondroitin. However MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methyl) works the same way in the body and is usually less expensive.

They are both used as a source of sulfonyl groups, which are mostly found in the body in connective tissue. My research was quite some time ago but I’ve take MSM by itself since then.

Taking MSM, gucosamine and chondroitin is like taking two things for the same problem. One or the other should suffice if the concentrations are the same as the combination.

It takes a few weeks for the levels to make the effect noticeable.

Again, my research was done some time ago, things may have changed a little but the underlying mechanism should still be the same.

Didn’t even notice the Kirkland doesn’t have chondroitin in it.

Kirkland has a product with chondroitin. I use it. But it is considerably more expensive than the one with MSM. Though still a bit cheaper than other brands (when not on sale somewhere).

Don’t get the more “convenient” combo pills of glucosamine and chondroitin. Chondroitin sops up the glucosamine and it doesn’t get absorbed.

Get the separate pills and take ’em at least 4hrs apart.

Where did that come from. Can’t seem to find info about that.

Unno, just picked it up on the street.

Just curious as to what the source is for this Not taking a combination)?
I read this:
_“On the other hand, another 2018 analysis observed a significant improvement in pain scores when glucosamine and chondroitin were taken together, while no improvements were found when the supplements were taken separately (14Trusted Source).”

Here is another interesting read on the subject:

Claim is that the glucosamine sulfate form is the best. I just noticed that the Kirkland brand is glucosamine hydrochloride.

Glad I cancelled that order. Good catch.

46y old here, and lifting weights. I started taking Collagen peptides (Peptan) recently (should have started before experiencing some pain… :person_facepalming: ).

Some years ago I tried glucosamine in powder (bulk, non flavored)… the taste was atrociously disgusting so I stopped :confounded:
