I come to take away all your XML2 U3 emitter lights...how do you react?

Glad I swapped out the XM-L2 in my Thrunite neutron 2c v2 a long time ago...and the most recent swap fried the driver *facepalm*

  • Other: That depends on the tint bin. I still like the 3A and 3D bins in the right reflector.

3V, large die size, hcri options.

My question would be what replacements are available if you want a large spot and decent light quality. Not that I haven’t swapped some xml2s with other LEDs, but the spot ist smaller. That may or may not be an advantage.

SST40 is basically a nice LED, but available only in three CCTs, low CRI. Olight is now using the 6500K version in their Baton 3.

Oooh good!

You can have all my Low CRI XM-L, and XM-L2. I replace them all with Nichia High CRI.

Just say no to Green CRI :confounded:

Even though it’s available in 6500k and 5000k the SST40 basically relegated the XM-L2, even the best bins, obsolete. Now with the HI versions of the xhp50.3, it’s a dinosaur. I have one in my SolarStorm SC01 5000K 80 CRI and it’s nice, but not as good as the 5000k sst40 I have in some lights. LEDs have come a long way in the last 5 years.

I got a bunch of the XM-L2 U3 3D back when Intl-outdoor was closing them out because they were no longer the darling LED.

They are just below 5000K right on the neutral line and around 75 CRI. I’m not driving them at 5 amp trying to squeeze the last lumen out ( ha, not even 3 amp!) There is nothing about the tint that would drive me to replace them in the lights they are in. I do have a stash of 90+ CRI LEDs in my parts bin and also a few of the XML2 3D left. I would still use them in the right application.
They do suffer from the variable tint due to angle out the dome so some reflectors can make this more/less a problem.
Not a fan of any green tint LED either! You always need to be specific about what tint bin you are using.

You can have all of my XML2 U3 emitter lights. I own 0 of them.

CREE Free zone, no XM-L2 permitted:

Slightly tangential but does anyone have experience with the new flip-chip XML2? Does it have significantly better efficiency or tint or current-handling ability compared to its predecessor?

Really hoping that a sub-5000K variant of the new XML2 could give the SST40 a run for its money.

You can have the emitters but not the lights.

how many do you need?:

.

I don’t have any. But if you persist in trying to swipe my flashlights, I might blind you with my laser pointer.

But you will be stealing my Amazon 99,000 lumen flashlight

That’s a good question!

I have an S3 with a XM-L2 4000K LED and a FET driver, and I’m still amazed as to how bright and durable it is for a single LED. It will probably remain.

BUT, I have several 4AA flashlights with XM-L2 LEDs that I could replace with 519As. BUT, I don’t use them since they are for my family to use which isn’t that often. So is it really worth replacing the LEDs if they don’t care about the greenish tint? Maybe if I get bored this winter I may mod them for the fun of it.

I have been slowly replacing the XML’s for SST’s and SFT’s and the lights become good as new.

The biggest problem with XM-L2 lights is a lot of the optics/reflectors look like crap with 3535 emitters
