NITECORE P35i, just picked up, immediately returns a sense of robustness and excellent surface processing with good finishes and thicknesses. The processing is perfect without sharp edges or processing residues. P35i is compact, it holds well in the hand even if slightly unbalanced towards the head. It is made up of two parts: Head with body and Tail; it is 145.5mm long and weighs, according to my scale, 376g (with battery inserted). The writings are clearly legible and placed in the right places.

Nitecore P35i is built in aeronautical aluminum alloy with a hard anodized finish of military grade HA III.
P35i having the protruding tail button cannot be placed in vertical candle (tailstanding).
The design of the P35i is very beautiful with the large head with the beautiful OLED display and the numerous cooling fins in evidence.

On the head of the Nitecore P35i we find a projector that combines a Class 1 “LEP” beam with a maximum output of 410 lumens, of the throw type, together with 6 CREE XP-G3 LEDs with a maximum output of 3,000 lumens of the flood type.

These two beams can be used alone or combined together to provide 13 different light settings, for a variety of lighting solutions, with a maximum brightness of 3000 lumens and a maximum beam distance of 1,650 meters with 678,000cd.

Nitecore P35i has an optical lens with scratch-resistant coating on both sides and is equipped with a slightly crenulated bezel.

On the head of considerable size we also find the side button and the OLED display together with deep cooling fins.

The side button (MODE), slightly embossed, is made of metal and has a hardly perceptible click.
With this button we will vary the light levels as well as set the desired mode of use, manage the "Preset" level (MIX Mode) and activate the OLED screen.

The multifunctional OLED display can display, in real time, a lot of information such as lumens, level, beam type, meters, operating time, voltage and more. The screen turns off automatically if no action is taken within 30 seconds. After switching off, a short press of the MODE button can reactivate the screen.

The central body of the Nitecore P35i has a rhomboid-shaped non-slip knurling with good grip even in rainy weather

The threads of the central tube are anodized and arrive well lubricated.
At the two poles, for contact with the battery, we find a particular contact system both on the negative and on the positive where a plated spring is evident. By unscrewing the tail cap you have the mechanical lock of the P35i with the only possibility of setting, with the side button, the “preset” level of the MIX mode.

The battery supplied with the Nitecore P35i is a 21700 protected by 15A (NL2150HPi 5,000 mAh), patented by Nitecore; the P35i accepts only Nitecore proprietary batteries for the “i” (i-Generation) series with double pole both in the head and in the tail or CR123 / RCR123 batteries.
House notes:
1. DO NOT attempt to use the P35i to charge CR123 / RCR123 batteries.
2. Nitecore P35i is NOT compatible with conventional 21700/18650 batteries.
3. TURBO / TOP level is inaccessible when using CR123 / RCR123 batteries.

On the tail cap we find the charging port in USB-C format and the mechanical tactical button.

The USB-C charging port, protected by a rubber flap, is IP68 certified against the infiltration of water and dust. Under the rubber flap we also find the blue power indicator.

During the charging process, the power indicator flashes slowly and the OLED screen shows the battery charge status.

When the battery is fully charged, the P35i stops the charging process and the power indicator
on the tang will remain lit constantly while the OLED screen will show that the process bar is full.

The average charging time of the 21700 Li-ion battery (5,000 mAh) is approximately 4 hours. (charged via a 5V / 2A adapter).

The mechanical switch in the queue has the task of turning the torch on or off (On-Off) and is equipped with the "momentary on" function (which can be operated with the torch off). The queue button together with the side button is also used for selecting the User Mode (click the queue switch while holding the side MODE button).

To operate the switch you have to make a fair amount of force and the click is noisy.

On the tail cap we do not find any holes to insert a lanyard.

BEAM and RUNTIME:

Nitecore P35i reaches 3000 lumens in Turbo mode. The new Nitecore has a concentrated beam (SPOT) with LEP technology to illuminate at long distances, recommended in particular for hunting and research, and an alluvial beam (FLOOD) to have lateral lighting useful for illuminating short and long distances. medium distances. The choice does not end there, because the two types of lighting can be used together in the MIX mode. This possibility is fantastic and allows the Nitecore P35i to cover almost any lighting need.

The depth throw beam, with LEP technology, has a very bright and concentrated white hotspot. In my specimen there is a side lighting that disturbs the beam even if it is not particularly noticeable when lighting in the distance.

The distance reached by the beam is considerable and is also appreciable in the MIX mode with the additional side lighting brought by the 6 CREE XP-G3 LEDs with cold shades.

The flood beam is clean with a pleasant color, also cold, which does not differ much from the color of the LEP beam. It offers a good amount of light to illuminate well at medium and low distances.

With the OPPLE Light Master I took some values of CCT (color temperature in degrees Kelvin) and of Ra or CRI (color rendering index) with the two types of beam, spot and flood.
Note: With a higher CRI value (maximum 100) you have a better color rendering.
In my tests the SPOT beam has an average CCT value of 6900 while the Ra or CRI has an average value of 65.
Turning to FLOOD alluvial beam, the average CCT value is 6300 while the average Ra value is 75.

I don't see any PWMs in any of the levels.

With a FLIR thermal imaging camera I detected the temperature in the brightest mode (3000 lumens) after: 1min30sec, 5min and 30min from switching on. The temperature never reaches critical values thanks certainly to the good regulation of the P35i and the good heat dissipation.

With the Luxmeter LX1330B I measured outside, at a distance of 10 meters, the (peak) value in candela of some levels in the various available modes. The values obtained in the tests are close to those declared by the parent company, except for the value of the LEP beam which in my case is lower.

SPOT1 - Ultralow 25 lumens = 37440cd = 387 meters
SPOT2 - Low 65 lumens = 96480cd = 621 meters
SPOT3 - Mid 130 lumens = 192600cd = 878 meters
SPOT4 - High 200 lumens = 310320cd = 1114 meters
SPOT5 - Turbo 410 lumens = 609480cd = 1561 meters

FLOOD4 - High 1000 lumens = 3600cd = 120 meters
FLOOD5 - Turbo 3000 lumens = 12900cd = 227 meters

MIX2 - Mid 420 lumens = 192960cd = 878 meters
MIX3 - High 3000 lumens = 598320cd = 1547 meters

The Runtimes were done outdoors, with medium ventilation and a temperature of about 15 °C, using the supplied battery, a 21700 protected by 5000 mAh, fully charged.

Nitecore's built-in ATR technology adjusts the P35i's output to suit working conditions and environment, to maintain optimum performance.

I would like to clarify that the values expressed by the graphs must be evaluated above all as a reference because they are made with means and conditions different from those used in the laboratory.

In the runtime tests, performed in FLOOD, SPOT and MIX modes, the values indicated by the parent company regarding the working times were reached in almost all the tests and in some cases exceeded.

Let's see below the discharge curves in the various modes.

CONCLUSIONS:

Nitecore P35i updates the previous P30i successfully. P35i is a complete flashlight of 2 types of beam, flood and depth with LEP technology, which combined together make the vision very rewarding.
I really liked the packaging with the great hard holster and the included remote control.
There are many positive sides of the P30i which offers a very valid experience for use with hunting thanks to the powerful and concentrated beam with laser technology, but the lens system must be perfected.
The Nitecore P35i has a solid and quality construction with which we are able to optimally illuminate the walk or, if necessary, at long distances. The levels are well spaced and the regolation is excellent. Recommended.
