14500 battery for a Wurkkos TS10

I have discovered not all 14500 batteries are equal. I recently purchased a TS10. I have only one other 14500 light, a Rofis R2. When I bought the TS10 I thought I would have a spare cell, figuring I could use the one out of the R2. Turns out that Rofis 800mAh cell is noticeably longer than the Wurkkos 900mAh cell, and won’t fit the TS10. I don’t have calipers to measure the cells, wondering if the TS10 will only take the Wurkkos cell, or the Rofis cell is a one off? It sort of looks like Rofis extended the cell a bit, as there’s a slight depression visible under the wrapper at the anode end of the cell.

Perhaps it‘s a protected cell from Rofis?

The Rofis probably uses a protected cell, since it is dual fuel, non Anduril.

Anduril does not like protected batteries.

The stock TS10 battery is an unprotected button top that is 50.2mm long.

The TS10 works with either button top or flat top, IF they are short enough. (The SP10 Pro only works w button tops… use the Sofirn or Wurkkos unprotected button top battery)

here is the best price atm:

your homework assignment is to confirm the length specification is not longer than the stock TS10 battery.

if you want to order from USA:
This is an unprotected flat top that is 49mm long, and it works in the TS10:

Do NOT buy the button top version that is 52mm long, even though it is unprotected, it is too long.

Anduril is absolutely happy with protected cells, it doesn’t even notice if it’s protected or not. But if the driver is designed to pull too much current, the protection will cut the power.

LOL!

That may be Happy for Anduril, but it Pisses Off the Operator…

I do not recommend protected batteries in Anduril lights…
because, I hate sudden darkness, and 0 Volt batteries.

Again: This has nothing to do with Anduril. The protection circuit in the battery will cut the power, when the driver (not Anduril) want more current than the protection circuit allows.

Better: Do not recommend protected batteries in high power flashlights. Even single mode drivers can trip the protection circuit of the battery.

Thanks for the tips jon_slider, and also the tip to correct the topic title. :person_facepalming:
I’m guessing one backup cell is good for now, and the vapcell capacity looks nice. I may even check out the local smoke shop to see if they have such a battery, as for one shipping is hardly worth it. If its no longer than my cell then it should be good. Of course, with the sofirn link I would get 3 cells . . .

Vapcell L10 is good, bought a few for myself. Better than the stock battery for sure.

I still have my R2 stock cell. Yes, it’s protected, and overall length is 53mm. The button top H10 and L10 cells I have are 51.4mm and 51.5mm, respectively (the Vapcell gold, iirc, is 51.2mm). All three of these Vapcells fit into the TS10 just fine. I had to check, but nope, the Rofis cell just won’t work. That 1.5mm extra length can’t be accommodated in the light - tight design tolerances and only a single spring instead of double springs.

Most 14500 cells as factory stock flat tops come in just a hair over or under 50mm…add the button top and it’s another 1-1.5mm extra. You can use flat tops cells in the TS10 if you want - no physical reverse polarity bits on the driver to get in the way and no components around the + contact to worry about.

As an aside, just about all alkaline and NiMh cells with their standard button tops will adhere to the 50mm standard or maybe just a half millimeter longer. I can’t remember how close the old Sanyo 14500 were to standard but it seems all of our other China 14500 cell manufacturers feel ok stretching it out a bit.

For the TS10 any of the cells from Vapcell will be fine (or a Sofirn or Wurkkos cell if you have any of those). I’d get the Vapcell H10 although for this light the L10 is basically the same (and since the thermal regulation is so aggressive on this one you’re not really getting any benefit from the H10 in actual use of the light).

I always compare pricing between Illumn and Liion Wholesale…sometimes one is better (or more often, one of them is out of stock while the other has what you need). Illumn still gives us a 5% BLF discount and they’re great folks (code: blfuser).

Thanks for chiming in

I did try to put in one alkaline cell, too fat! an eneloop fit fine though.

Good to know the button top fits also, as well as the discount for BLF from Illumn!

I just had some Vapcell golds turn up https://www.vapcelltech.com/h-pd-47.html?fromColId=30 - measured with the thin plastic bag over them (metal calipers….) I got just under 51mm.

Xtar 14500 800mah is solid protected battery with correct lenght and diameter.

I have 5 of those XTAR 800s that I’ve been using for a couple of years in other lights, and they seem to do well. I see a note that 2 of 'em I tested new @500 mA discharge current delivered 794 and 790 mAh on a Opus 3100 v2.2, but I don’t see the results on the other 3, or my follow-up results later (at the moment).

I’m also looking for spares for my TS10 that’s on its way to me. Just checked the vapcell L10 recommended in this thread and saw someone’s comment on Ali Express saying it had very high I rental resistance (115-125 mOhms instead of the advertised 66). I know that’s not good. What are your thoughts on this?

I prefer the Vapcel F12 1250mAh instead of 1050mAh for the L10

be aware that the button top L10 is too long, if you choose the L10 be sure to buy flat top

the F12 button top is shorter, and works in the TS10, or you can also use the flat top F12

I use the Wurkkos batteries mostly around home, but I like the Acebeam 14500 USB-C rechargeable 920 mAh so that I don’t have to carry a charger when I travel.

2 Thanks

I agree the USB is convenient for travel charging, it just has lower capacity 920mAh instead of 1250mAh for the F12, that is 36% more runtime

Hmm, the F12s do look nice, do you recommend illumn.com as a source?

yes, that is where I get mine
F12 flat top
they also cost a bit less than the L10

I can vouch for illumn, it is a reputable shop, run by two brothers who are flashlight afficionados and have been active in the community for many years.

Completely trustworthy imo, and their prices are good… slightly less than LiIon Wholesale

The TS10 is very versatile in the range of batteries it works with. It can use both button or flat top F12.

The only ones that dont work in a TS10 are 52mm or longer, such as the button top L10 and button top H10.

2 Thanks

Both the flat and button top F12s are out of stock . Will have to check back later.
