Anduril - would you want full-time timeout (not just sunset mode?)

Would you want a feature in Anduril to automatically turn off the main emitter after X minutes (without having to set sunset mode)? Maybe blink the light 1 minute before turning off as a warning?

Some lights I never use for extended periods. My night-time light that I use on moonlight 95% of the time is only on for a few minutes at a time, and sometimes I forget to turn it off because it’s so dim. Lights like the Sofirn SP10pro have such low level moonlight levels that it’s easy to not notice they’re on. Not to mention the SP10 is easy to activate accidentally.

Automatic lockout isn’t very useful because it doesn’t take care of all of these situations where the light is left on. It also makes using the light more difficult - now you have to unlock it. A automatic timeout seems the least intrusive for many use cases. For me, the timeout would only happen if I accidentally left the light on. It’d also be a nice feature for kid lights so they don’t leave the light on (SP10 pro can take regular AA).

i guess not

it;s been 3.5 years with the FW3A and i have never even thought about that!

wle

Yes, I think Auto Off is a desirable feature…

basically, turn sunset mode On or Off
instead of having to set it each time

good point, I agree…

I had thought of this before as a kid’s light feature.

As much as I like it and extol the basic simpleness of Anduril, it’s not the UI I think of first when I think kids light. But that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be appreciated in Anduril, especially in simple mode.

Same here… when I think of gifting a light to a child, I go back to a basic 3 mode clicky, such as the Lumintop Tool…

I have gifted just 2 Anduril lights, to muggles, but they are tech oriented, one is a mechanic, the other is an IT guy, so they can understand things like memory, battery check, 1H, 2C, etc…… I chose SC21 Pro, for the built in charging… and I adjust a few Options, to promote safety

1. disable Turbo
2. set all ceiling to 110/150
3. set manual memory to 10 lumens

I worry whether the light will end up locked out by mistake, and if I will receive a phone call asking for help with the broken flashlight… so far that has not happened… fortunately… otoh, it is easy to clic 4 or 5 times by mistake, and end up with a seemingly “broken” or non working, anduril light.

Anduril is really best suited to people that are interested in reading the manual and learning about all the Optional features. Its not a light I would recommend just trying to figure out without reading the manual.

Regarding lockout thing, I was going to say that they can always “turn it off and turn it back on” by unscrewing the light and then screwing it back on to get back to a using the light.

But I tried it just now on my Anduril lights and would you look at that - if you lock a light, it remembers the lock. Even after rebooting the light by unscrewing it. Huh…do you think lockout should not be remembered?

On the other hand, I think if full time sunset exists, it should be memorized even when power cycled, but limit it to 10 minutes minimum.

Lockout is not memorized, but the driver can hold some charge. So if you just quickly twisted the tailcap, it might have been not long enough. Wait 30 seconds or shortly press the button. Some lights that have non-anodized threads you will have to unscrew the tailcap completely.

I was pushing that in the thread about designing a granma light.

Mum used to always leave on her crappy 3AAA lights, to the point they’d crap themselves and ruin the springs in the carrier, if not the entire light’s innards.

I didn’t want to give her a light that would set the tablecloth on fire (she’d often put them LEDs-down), so wanted something bright but manageable, and a timeout. Eg, 1 blink after 10min, more blinks 2min after, nonstop slow blinks for another 1min or so, then auto-off. Just touching any button would reset the timer.

Nothing ever came of that idea/thread.
