Sofirn IF19 Caution (12.2A)

I’m currently reviewing the IF19 with both SST40 and SFT40 that I reflowed in since it’s going to be an option soon.

This thing performs extremely well, but it has no thermal regulation other than a 1 minute timer. I used a Samsung 30Q with an 18650 tube and hit 85°C by reactivating Turbo, I then quickly turned it off.

Measured current at turn on with the SFT40 unit and it’s hitting 12.2A! It shouldn’t be over 10A at the absolute max, even that’s a bit too high to comfortably sell. Adding the tail cap would bring that down a bit though, but this thing is driving it way too hard.

Great host for something else perhaps

Are they relying on the current being limited by the 18350 battery? Obv if they include an 18650 tube then this goes out the window.

My contact said an 18650 tube would be made available for it, so it kind of does need addressing. It’s very possible that with the tail cap installed the added resistance is bringing it to safe levels. I measured 2040 lumens with 8 awg bridge and 1905 with the tail cap on, but it may end up higher if a Molicel P26A was used.

I’ve just mentioned that perhaps just add a note in the manual about 10A max cell

From Djozz’s test it looks like 12A is overdriving the SFT past the point of diminished output so it def needs to be addressed. Which is why i find it interesting that the brightness went up with your bridge instead of down.

Did you measure the current with the SST40? Just wondering if the SST is a higher voltage bin than the SFT, and the driver is set for the SST.

SST40 peaks at 9.4A. I’m not sure if this is too high or not, some mentioned that the SST40 was updated at some point and could handle over the 8A they used to fail at.

I wish there was some way to measure the current with the tailcap on

Couldn’t you just use more wire and some alligator clips to incorporate the tail cap into your bridge?

Ah, i just ordered one because it’s so cute as a shorty.
It seems a driver swap is in order then.
Should have looked here first, probably wouldn’t have bought it (because i hate DD drivers).

Sofirn didn’t end up releasing the SFT40 version, so the SST40 doesn’t exceed 9.4A and with the added resistance of the tailcap installed that would decrease the current further.

Wurkkos TS11 is what you should of purchased.

Yes, so it seems.
I’ll see if i can cancel the order.
