Q8 plus (ec06)

I need a larger long distance flashlight for property night work.

I’m bit confused over the q8pro or plus

If I’m not wrong the ec06 isn’t new?

But the q8 plus is a rebranded ec06, why, is it better?

I’m a big Sofirn fan n have if25a but want a bigger work light

Would you agree the q8 plus the best for the money in this area?

Thanks

Only difference is the main MCU. In Sofirn version it is not Attiny85 I think. And it is big and heavy flashlight with output almost 25000 lumens with P42 cells. But sustained lumens are pretty low for that model. Also EC06 it is not thrower. The light is more flood. Also driver is PWM. I think better option is new one Convoy 3X21B with XHP70.3. It is have better driver and leds for better throw. If you don’t need Anduril maybe Convoy is better choice for your needs.

Trying to use a Q8 for long distance would be like using a sledge hammer to hammer in a 2 inch nail.

Take a look at the Convoy L21a with the W2 emitter. Now that’s a thrower.

How do you define long distance though? We get a little crazy with that around here and start measuring in Km with some models…. (GiggleMonster, LEP, etc)

CULPM1.TG is not W2, though. It’s Boost HX.

W2 is CSLPM1.TG (a 3mm package instead of the 4mm of the Boost HX.)

Too bad there’s no SFT40/SST40 Q8. I built one (5000K SST40 for the nicer CCT) and it’s a useful allrounder like the XP-L Q8, but on steroids. Anduril sounds ok for the good temperature control, a better driver would be welcome.

Unfortunately the Q8-type lights got more and more floody instead.

I thought the die was the same size, just the pad different. Personally hate the official naming of them, way too many similar looking complex combinations of letters.

I thought the CULPM1 was known as W2.2?

Check out the Wurkkos TS32 that has dual channel for both flood and spot

I believe Hank calls it that, but I haven’t seen it elsewhere.

Can’t find a review for Q8 Plus, is there any? I understand that it’s the same as EC06, but would like to see if Sofirn has preserved the high build quality and optimizations for high current.

Just seen today that this light exists, now I need one, dammit! Think it’s a great replacement for my O. G. BLF Q8, which is totally obsolete by now (5000 Lm, while the current Sofirn Q8 Pro is 11 000 Lm, but this monster is 16 to 24! Mind-blowing).

I’d 100% only recommend the Wurkkos TS32 over the EC06 because you only get 30 seconds of turbo, when set to a 70°C thermal limit, before it drops to 1000-2000 lumens. All that coverage and range is virtually now no more than many smaller models.

Thank you very much, that is an interesting model indeed, and Wurkkos has a few other interesting lights that give Sofirn a run for their money. Never heard of that brand before.

Sofirn’s factory makes the Wurkkos lights actually lol.

I know, read it in the review, but Sofirn themselves don’t offer a comparable model. I quite like the Sofirn quality, and their bang for buck is outstanding.
TS32 also doesn’t seem to hold high output for too long, though? Or do you suggest tweaking the default limits?

You can’t change the thermal limit of the TS32 it’s not running on Anduril.

On 1lumen the flood leds step down at 45 seconds, and the spot led 12 minutes. You get more turbo on the TS32 for both modes over the Q8 Plus. At least you can still get decent range for a fair duration. It depends what you want, a massive flood of light for seconds or something that still provides good distance when needed. In my review I set the EC06 to 70°C and it stepped down within 30-40 seconds, that’s flippen hot.

I feel Sofirn is somewhat complacent at the moment and not really pushing the limits, except maybe the value for money aspect. They are comfortable doing the manufacturing duty for other brands’ more ambitious models.
On my local online marketplace (Shopee), their most expensive models are the Q8 Pro and one diving light I don’t remember the model name, with even the Q8 Plus missing. Their largest light is still the SP70, from 2019? CMIIW. No Luminus SBT90.2 light, no Nichia light, so many SST40 and XHP50.2 ones, while SFN43 proves to be a literal hot stuff.
Please prove me wrong, Sofirn. I do like your SP35 and C8L, though, and I hope the proposed SP33S High CRI will make it into the market.

@PiercingTheDarkness, any chance you can do flashlight review of lumen monsters from Imalent? In particular their latest offering, SR16, got me intrigued.
I always look forward to your beamshot and drone beamshot tests.
And NZ landscape is so awesome.
Thanks for your works.

Thanks for your great reviews Funtastic, just watched the EC06 one: Astrolux EC06 Review (Sofirn Q8 Plus), 16,000 Lumens vs MF01S, FT02S, L6 with Drone Beamshots!! - YouTube
And it seems to me that there is so much flood under your feet and up close on turbo and high modes that you can’t really see much in the distance, even though lot of light does reach far away. Is it better in person, i. e. the camera’s dynamic range is too limited, or does the flood up close really overpower your vision?

Does Q8 Plus use Anduril or not?

P. S. Does anyone of you know anything about Wurkkos dl06? Seems to be another light very similar to EC06 (not sure if a complete clone), same price, but it comes with a handle.

Yes, such brightness up close will overpower our vision. IMHO, relying on a floody lumen monster to be able to spot something in the distance is counterintuitive. You are drenching your near area with light in the first place. Your eyes will adjust for the reflection from the ground and surrounding things, unless you position yourself relatively higher to reduce the reflected light. Even in Funtastic’s EC06 review, he included a big thrower in Convoy L6 to let us see that it still reaches very far albeit with just 3000 lumens.

The Q8 Plus uses Anduril2 AFAIK.

The Wurkkos DL06 is a diving light, I don’t know much about it other than it has a simple UI suitable for underwater use.

Ultimately, I think I will stick with Funtastic’s recommendation, Wurkkos TS32. Definitely much more practical and versatile.

Great review.

Does anyone know if a handle (like on the ts32) is made to fit the Q8 Plus’s tripod mount?
