mateminco mt 04 driver staked?

I have an MT04 with faulty 7135’s that are not working correctly. I want to take the driver out and replace it, but I can’t get the ring out. It looks like it was almost staked in, or when installed they mangled the ring /threads. Any ideas or assistance would be awesome!

I have pictures, but looks like this forum doesn’t support posting directly?? Do I have to host them somewhere else?

No image hosting here. You have to use an image hosting service. A lot of people use the propaganda cesspool known as imgur. (Avoid looking directly into the memes.)

https://imgbox.com/ is a good alternative I think. Propaganda free!

There's a link in my signature on how to post images on BLF.

Thanks for the guides and info. Tried Imagebam, seems like there is no way to post anything but thumbnails from there, but that is probably ok. As you can see this came to me pretty mangled…

You have to switch your browser to use desktop site and it’s fine.

You seem to be able to right click on the photo and hit “copy image link” and that should be what you’re after for posting in the future. Then there’s a field on here to input the photo size width % if it’s appearing too big.

Oops. That’s correct.

Try https://imgbox.com/ rather. After upload, click “Full Size” and pull the link out of the embed code.

Wow, that looks like some top notch workmanship right there! Well, it’s a notch anyway.

The hammer is a seldom used yet underappreciated asset in the flashlight community.

Edit: Apparently in manufacturers toolboxes as well

Yeah, I agree it doesn’t look like they were subtle with their work. I have thought of trying to pound the ring out. Or cut it but then I am not sure how I would retain it since the body of the tube butts right against the driver retaining ring in this light. It is actually hard to remove and screw back on the tube the threads are so bad. Must have been last light off the line on a Friday……

It looks like you can probably unscrew the retaining ring. To do this you could use retaining ring pliers or an adjustable spanner. There appears to be some damage to the threads in the head, I can’t quite tell, but if so, the ring may end up galling and getting stuck. If you can scrape away some of the material around the damage so that it resembles the proper thread form again, this will help. Add a good amount of grease to the threads before you attempt to remove the retaining ring. If it binds you can cut through the ring at the two thin spots and remove it. You’ll need a new retaining ring after that.

It might not be staked. Those features may have been added by hand with a rotary tool or something in order to install the retaining ring.

For people with other Mateminco lights is this typical of their quality?

I think the flashlights from Mateminco are of very good quality.I have 2pcs MT01 and one MT07 and none of them have this problem.
Maybe yours was put together by a rookie technician. It’s bad luck.

Maybe you can drill two holes in the ring and try to unscrew it.
I think you should contact them on Aliexpress, they were kind and helpful to me when I had a problem with my first MT01 stand by power consumption.

I used to be a dealer for Mateminco and never had a problem with QC. I sold heaps of the MT35 Mini before covid, then covid happened and sales entirely stopped.

Where they stock parts is expensive since they only give express shipping. Quote for a new MT35 Mini driver just last week was $9 + $26 shipping
