Help!! Can't figure out how to replace GT Nano button!!!

Wondering if anyone knows how to replace the rubber button on a gt nano or lumintop frog. Can’t seem to get the little rubber flange into its groove… Do I need to remove the retaining ring somehow? Thx!!!

Can you post pictures illustrating the problem?

Yes, but in removing it there’s a good chance you’ll ruin it or at least make it not-pretty. It’s a pressed in ring, friction fit, and it goes on top of the flange on the rubber to hold it in place and hopefully provide water resistance. I don’t think you’ll ever successfully get a button back in there without removing the ring, and likely will tear the rubber trying creative methods. Try a standard utility knife blade…blunt the cutting edge just slightly so that it isn’t as grabby, and if need be you can thin it down a little with a dremel or whatever. Pry very gently and work your way around a little at a time…may need to make a few full circles working it up slowly. If you ding up the top surface of the ring that can be carefully flattened to make reinserting it go well, but do try to keep it round because if it gets squished it’ll be almost impossible to make it round again for a good fit. Lumintop might sell you some spare rings if you ask and can get a reply (may as well ask for replacement rubber at the same time, just in case you need it someday).

This has been a trend lately where companies are using these skimpy pressed in rings rather than going through the (superior) bother of using threads. Similar to pressed in bezels but there’s a better reason to do that sometimes.

Thank you!!! Sorry I didn’t get around to posting pictures… I wondered if I wasn’t 1/2 hopeles… I’ll have to give it a whirl!!!

Get silicone or rubber sheeting that fits in the gap. Use an appropriate adhesive to seal it from ingress.

I can confirm this method works quite well. I threw in a little waterproof silicone sealant when installing the new rubber button so hopefully it won’t slip out as easily as the original.

Sorry to jump on an ancient post… but I’ve just lost the button on mine. Attempted to contact lumintop but haven’t had any reply. Did anyone get a replacement button, or are you making new ones from silicone yourselves as advised above?

TIA. Barry

I lost the button on mine also. I ordered a new button from Jlhawaii808.com I was able to get the pressed in bezel removed by using a T47 torx/star bit, and using that to grip the I.D. of the button bezel and twist it out. The T47 that I used was worn just enough that it fit. A different new T47 that I had was just a little bit too big though. Here’s a few pics.
