I have resisted these so far because they usually run $65.
Might have to get one now, anyone hear anything negative about them that I should know before I pull the trigger? I understand they are pretty bulletproof.
I've heard only outrageous praise--that they are, bar none, the best of the best as far as dropins go. The Ds are sold out (as they always are), but click on the Cs and it shows they have them.
Hey Troop, I just bought one about 2 months ago from thetorchsite.co.uk. It's XPG, Not as well built as the Malkoff, But quite a bit cheaper and works really well. Rated 200lm and I would say it is at least that and he says no problem with overheating like the Terralux. Have to say I am Genuinely impressed with it and I have absolutely no link to him or his company!
I have something sort of similar to that now that I bought on ebay awhile back, but I think it is XR-E, not XP-G. It's better than the factory light, but very small hotspot with almost no spill. It was a Terralux, I think.
I'm a Mag fan. Sent a note to the company asking when they were planning on rolling out newer emitters in the larger sizes of Maglites similar to the new Mini Mag Pro & Pro+. Response back was a simple 'working on it'. I have to wonder if the folks at Malkoff know something is in the works at Maglite and are trying to offload inventory before that happens and their drop-ins 'drop' in value.
and always thought i would get one someday. had they been this price a while ago i surely would have (trooplewis, thanks for the heads up by the way). now though, for the money, there are a lot of other, brighter options.
I'm think I'm going this route for the OL/3D and do the ROP later. $39 is pretty dang good and it's such a simple mod for how much more horsepower you get over a stock Mag or even the LED "upgrade."
I never knew that it was so easy to change from incandescent to led using this drop-in. IMO the price is still too high considering that I can easily get similar output from buying a new flashlight for less.
