Kaidomain SST-40 and 3V XHP50.3 questions

The greenish tint on my Sofirn 31T Pro is pretty awful and I’m considering swapping in either a 5000K SST-40 or 6500K XHP-50.3 from Kaidomain. Anyone have any experience with these leds as to their tints, etc? I’m not really into cool white tints but anything has to be better than the current tint in the light.

I’m at the point of putting in a XM-L2 or XP-L2 just to stand using the light :person_facepalming:

Thanks!

How about an XHP70.3?

I think it comes in a number of tints, and it outputs more lumens.

Nevermind.

The emitter is probably too big.

Can you tell that I've never swapped an emitter?

You’ve posted here nearly twenty thousand times and you’ve never swapped an emitter?

I just tried the 3000 and 4000K new xml2 from Kaidomain. Pretty good, a nice replacement for really ugly sst40.

Avoid SST40's, even the 5000K variant. Their tints range from ok to extremely green, and there is absolutely no way to tell which you'd get.

If good tint but cool white is ok for you, the SFT40 is very good, and will give you a lot more throw.

If you are intent on neutral/warm white, the new XM-L2s are supposedly great.

I am not a modder.

I decided to go with the XML-2 U3 from Kaidomain. I don’t want to play the lottery game with the SST-40’s and the 6500K XHP-50 is too cool for my taste. I have an old Convoy C8 with the removable pill and a BLF driver lying around so I might was well put that led into it as well

The funny thing is that I have so many lights that after the swap I’ll probably never use the Sofirn’s or Convoy again. But I’m sure that many others are in the same situation as well :open_mouth:

Fair enough! I like how varied everyone is on this forum

I’m in the same situation with so many flashlights. :person_facepalming:

I finally decided to replace the XM-L2 T6 4C 4000K LED in my S3 since I don’t use it anymore. Sure it has lots of lumens for a single LED, but I don’t like the greenish tint and lower CRI. I made it many years ago, but it just sits on the shelf.

So I’m replacing the LED with one that I think I will like better and want to use every once and a while. And much better than adding another flashlight to the collection!

That's the spirit! Saving both money and resources while having fun with the process. A great way to make the flashlight hobby sustainable and affordable while debunking the buy-them-all stereotype.

Sofirn sells (or they did last I checked) 3V XHP50.2 in 3A bin on their website. Best 3V 50.2 I have found.

I saw them on their website but unfortunately I don’t have any spare boards and my success on reflows has been somewhat mixed to say the least :weary:
