SkyRC MC3000 Failure

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this type of failure on the MC3000?
Walked in to my office on Christmas Day to a burning plastic smell and found this:

Looks like there is a short inside the unit. There were no batteries being charged/discharged or even loaded in any of the slots

Huh, strange

I don´t have a MC3000 but I prefer to plug out my chargers if I don´t use it

Yeah, that is not good. I have one that is around 8 years old. Except for the spring post issue, it has been perfect.
I have all of my other chargers on a switched power strip that is off except when I am using them. The MC3000 is “hot” all of the time because I use it multiple times pretty much everyday . Sorry to see this. I may have to remove power from the thing when not in use.

I’ve had mine powered on 24/7 since i got it shortly after they first came out, so I feel lucky.
I haven’t used the stock power brick though, mine’s always been on 13.2VDC supplied from a bank of big lead acid batteries that are maintained by a solar charge controller. Maybe the stability of the power supply contributes somehow.

I’ll open it up on the weekend to see what happened. Could be caused by the power supply, was using the stock one.
