But it's cool white, and isn't that brighter?

It's brighter, but tint depends on the person. Personally, I don't like NW. Mine is from LightMalls (USD71 now) and it seems to be similar to 1C or 1A tint.

Does NW have a better illuminating effect, sort of like an incan?

Better color rendering and easier on the eyes. Cool white=more lumens but colors get grayed out. I was nuts enough to order one anyway! Foot in Mouth

Example: I do the "chocolate lab" test... she is brown and I have a black GSD/Lab mix. So when I test lights when I pee them at night, Abby (chocolate) looks all grayed out and flat with a cool and she looks her natural reddish-brown with a neutral.

Verdict: Best tint of all is the LED Supply 4000K neutral XP-G triple, runner-up is their 4500K XM-L. *Every* other neutral XM-L I've tried has been too greenish in comparison.

Also, cool at night sets me on edge a little. Don't like fluorescents either-makes me crabby. (not difficult!) Neutrals are much nicer. I'll take a cool if I go in the car and/or during the day for absolute max output.

The tint of the Skyray neutral is good, but not quite as nice as the LED Supply emitter. Still, you won't be disappointed... I love mine.

JMO.

I have a question to somebody having this flashlight, and a lumen meter, or ceiling bounce meter:

- Does lumens change when standby battery voltage isn't 4.20V?

I mean, If I charge them to 4.00, or 3.80, or maybe less, at which point it starts decreasing output?

Just a word of caution though rusty Joe,

better do a throughout check on your King from light mall, coz I got one with 1 of the 3 Led not working. Had to pry out the driver board, remove the reflector and test the led with direct drive. I have changed a spare 16mm XML in since, and that company as for proof. But I forgot to take pics before I did the repair. Now its my words against theirs and I dun think I will get anything out of this episode.

Thanks. Well, I hope it's not defective or at least they better be an honest company!

Ps. Sorry about the missing pics in my reviews. My photo host upgraded to new version and the old links don't work for some reason. Please be patient. I'm working on it..

Hi _the_, could you do this test if you have time and want to?

Because visually I don't note difference when using with ONE battery than with four, so I think it would be interesting to know if with lower voltage it stills with same output.

Thanks!

I find it weird that this light is brighter than the NW DRY on turbo when the turbo driver already sends 4 amps to every led.

These are flat tops. You need Orbtronic or AW button tops. The best for the King….. Of any light…. I have seen a lot of batteries come and go, damaged, burnt, self destruct, but the Orbtronics keep on ticking and after 10 charges get stronger !

Have you tried the king with AWs? They are LMR (“IMR”) so I would like to know if the king supports that.

Every battery capable of discharge at 5A without problem, would be great for the king, like the Orbtonic, Trustfire 3000, etc.

II would recommend flat top AW’s. With any light that requires direct PCB to battery contact, button tops will damage the surface unlike a spring. You can use button top spacers. AW’s are widely known for there 1600mah red label
cells they made a few years ago, discharge 9-10amps. Oh, and Black Label 32650’s and 26500 as well…

Manny – I just purchased a bunch of Panasonic’s. I’ll alternate between them an AW’s.The 18650 cell
in your pic im assuming is yours? Can you tell me if in fact that is is a red ring around the top or positive end?

The ones i have do have a button although it appears to be a bit more recessed than the Panasonic in your pic.

The cells i have are identical to this one
http://www.orbtronic.com/batteries-chargers/panasonic-3100mah-ncr18650a-...

side note, AW purchases highest binned raw cells from Panasonic ..

The red ring is on the plastic cover, once removed the red ring is gone. The best are Panasonic cells, Orbtronic are Panasonic cells and they are better built ! Orbtronic cells have a different weld spot on positive to negative protection… They are a hell of a battery !!!!! They come from Clearwater, Florida and customer service is #1. I have been a flashaholic for almost 10 years on CPF for 4yrs. And new to BLF…. Just read this: http://budgetlightforum.com/node/10101
