G’Day everyone from Australia,

I just bought one of these awesome torches (as we call em over here) and wondering what 18650 batteries are good for it.

Looking at the Ultrafire ones on eBay, but noticing they come in different mAh. Is it better to go the highest mAh possible (they range from 2600 mAh to 5000 mAh.)

I don’t know a great deal about batteries, but what would people recommend for this torch? The higher the mAh the better?

I order the Skyray King from Manafont..But, it seems he sends me the Mimic instead. The lanyard he provides is dark brown compared to the lighter one instead and I paid more for the original. I am pissed right now.

@Plurkstar: please take a picture, is the brightness the same ?

@Lionheart: If you buy batteries at ebay, mostly ist the Numbbers are not wright, tha´s like the lumen at torches.
My works with Ultrafire 2600 mAh
If it´s more then 2600 it should be bbetter but i don´n know if that is true Smile

Hi, Here are the pictures ..They send me in a paper bag with the items wrapped in plastic cover.
As you can see, the logo is slightly smaller compared to the original Sky Ray king and the lanyard matches the mimic, which is dark brown in color. Extremely disappointing.

write them and ask them what happend. I think you paid via paypal, then call paypal and write the item was wrong, maybe you get the money back.
But for the first call manafont via e mail or with the live chat

That really looks like the mimic. Good luck with Manafont after-sale horror.

They probably will try to stall you, but make sure you don't exceed PP protection window no matter what. If no reasonable agreement reached by 40th - 44th day, open PP dispute. That's your only leverage.

@Wulf, thank you..I have already send a support mail to them..I will be following up with them and here as well. Kind of strange, why would they want to do that? I was wondering if they do it intentionally.

@Pulsar, Yes indeed, it does look link the mimic. The logo is visibly smaller and slightly faded compared to the original Sky ray king. I ordered the item on the 23’rd of November, received it today via hong kong post. Made payment via paypal and would be opening a dispute if they do not entertain me. I will make sure they will have their paypal account limited if I am not satisfied with the outcome.

What are the obvious signs of a mimic? I have one on it’s way from overseas and I want to make sure it’s the real deal when I get it.
Lanyard colours and logo sizes? Care to explain a bit more in detail please?

My Skyray king comes in a Paper bag..I heard some received in a box. So, this could be one of the sign of a mimic. Also, apart from the lanyard if you notice the logo of the mimic carefully,

1) The ray or the beam in the logo touches the k. It should stop at Y. Refer to the original Sky Ray logo below.
2) The ray going downwards is shorter compared to the original Sky ray logo. I hope i make sense.

Anyone has a better pic of the logo. My SRK from Tmart logo printed is Sky Ray 3XT6 and a pic of a partial moon and a star burst. Just noticed your pic shows Sky Ray King.

Plurkstar the light could be real, maybe a new design update, Rick sells the black one and that looks like the one you received.

Hi how2, The Sky Ray in the picture (Black color) is only available at Cnqualitygoods. I got mine at manafont and if you search for Skyray King, there are 2 version and mine look exactly like the one mention here

I am yet to hear from manafont about this. But, first impression, anyone would think he receive the mimic instead of the original. The logo, the lanyard, and packaging, etc..

Plurkstar there is two things you can do one send back the light and get a refund.

Two ask for the difference back. The Mimic should be o.k.

Just file a paypal dispute. Stop letting manafont screw customers over.

Only difference I can tell between the mimic and the original SRK is the length. Mimic is longer by .11 inches only—very little difference aside from the lanyard color and logo. :~

Well, this is hard to tell, really.

Maybe you don't know, but in China they don't follow the same rules for copyright as in other countries. They are somehow used to copy eachother and resell the copies.

This happens in all production segments, not only flashlights.

This said, it all depends on the final user to decide. If you buy from an authorized store at full price, you HAVE to receive the original one. But when you buy from ebay or from the many sellers that have a web store and are anyway based in china, it's very likely you'll receive a copy. Is that bad? well, yes and no. Many times these copies are as good as the originals but at a much lower price.

Also, there are models of torches that have never been produced from the "official" brand but are widely available from the webstores. By their own design and manufacture, just applying on top a well known brand. Ultrafire are famous for this, for example.

Oh, and in regard to your battery question above, Ultrafires are generally considered cheap low quality cells, and meanwhile the original Ultrafire are supposed to exist somwhere, the vast majority of Ultrafire cells sold on ebay have resulted to be recycled laptop cells rewrapped in new coloured labels. Crappy quality.

If you want a good quality cell look for original Panasonics. They are available also protected at a decent price at Intl.Outdoor.

Other well respected cells are AW branded.

But search the forum, there are thousands threads about tested good and bad cells.

Thanks for the reply, to cut a long story short, I bought a Black Limited edition 2500 lumen Sky Ray King from CN Quality goods, and now that I’ve ordered I’m worried it will be a crummy copy/replica/mimic.

In regards to the battery question I asked, I have already purchased some nice Panasonic NCR 3400mAh 18650’s for it when it arrives.

Ok Guys, I received a reply from Jim of Manafont. In it, he mentions if he can assist in the return process? He quote “Please do not worry about the return shipping cost, because we will be able to cover it if the item is verified incorrectly shipped.

To save your time, I will do my best to issue a cross-shipping. So you will not need to wait for verification of returned item.”

So, should I be doing a paypal dispute before I do a return shipping or should I trust this guys?

Can't seem to post a pic but the version lightmalls is selling comes in an unmarked box with the darker, coarser braided lanyard. It came *very* clean and lubed, cleanest assembled anything I've gotten from China ever. Some dust under the tail cap. Light tool marks, no burrs or metal grit anywhere.

The pictured differences in dimensions between the mimic and the OG on Manafont are so close they could be caliper/user error.

My light is CW (looks a bit bluish compared to a NW) and works great except you can jostle the switch on. Unscrew the batt tube 1/2 a turn to lock out the switch.

Haven't seen anyone post a serious complaint about the mimic so not worried, but I'm a n00b. Thanks to y'all for steering me to this light!!

Apparently there are from that source, and those are two different heads in the pics above.
