WTB I'm going mad...

Thing is I have to find perfect light for my best friend birthday present. As usual with me, seems like I'm on a hunt for holy grail of flashlights. I wish I could say that budget isn't limiting factor but I wish to stay in reasonable range (up to 50$)

Request are:

1. AA/14500 battery

2. Clip

3. Flood beam

4. Tail stands

5. HA-III anodizing

6. Three mode (if possible)

Best candidate so far is Klarus P1A but it's not floody enough and 3-mode would be better. Xeno E03 doesn't have a clip (although fenix clip should fit but it's not easily available)

Any ideas ? I'm even considering changing xp-g in klarus P1A with xm-l (if i figure out how to open it)

The Balder SE-1

Can be easily modded to tailstand .

Just about all flood .

Very bright on 14500 .

Three modes .

Nice clip .

Available in neutral XML .

My current EDC . I love this thing .

I considered Balder SE-1 xm-l but from available pictures I concluded it can't be made to securely tail stand. Obviously I was wrong :-) Perhaps some details how to fix it (usual o-ring adding/button replacement or something else ?)

However after reading some reviews it looks like it has much more throw than xeno e03 and there are certain worries about reliability (driver issues) and low pwm frequency.

before I even finished reading your post, i thought to myself "A xeno with a pocket clip is perfect"

I've got two of them, one new in the box! If I were you, id buy a xeno and pocket clip.

I did have a faulty driver in mine . I asked for and received a replacement , installed it , and now all is well . Others had no problems .

The tailstanding issue was solved with the help of another forum member ( usual o-ring adding/button replacement ).

The beam profile and tint of this light are the factors that make it great for me . And it's very bright on high and the low is quite low .

What is the name of that funky AA angle light, I think it is a Trustfire? Does everything you want but one of the modes is strobe.

AH, no, it was a UniqueFire, the V4

Exactly, xeno has it all but I can't buy fenix clip (fenixgear.com doesn't support non USA paypal accounts and probably wont ship outside US either)

Perhaps someone on BLF has a clip to spare ...

fenixgear? no chance. only Americas.

i got fenix-clips from Fenix-Store.com. more expensive but i will give you good price. is 15% off okay? ooops sorry we are out of stock. just checked.

Three modes meaning three constant outputs and no strobe?

Yup.

Finally made some progress... www.flashlightshop.de has LD20 clip and ships to Croatia although price is quite high (4,96 + 4,12 € shipping) ouch !

what about the Uniquefire UF-V4 3-Mode XP-G 13$ with that survey, a nice light for the price, a lucky guy can receive 2 gifts!? xD

DD u need to pay me the overtime! xD

I'm done with DD lottery ! Thanks for suggestion but those angle lights are simply not up to my taste...

we are bfl. please dont support such horrendous prices by greedy German dealers.

thanks.

I'm still trying to find another solution but so far it's my only option.

Last time I checked KD was still selling the Trustfire R5-A3 with the modable 3 mode driver. Grab an XML on a small board and you have everything you asked for.

Not bad but it's not in a same league with klarus, xeno, olight.

do you personally own/know p1a and e03? i do (and i dont like the optical design of Balder lights). i canNOT recommend the Fenix LD20 clip on the e03. works only for bezel up carry. but since the finish is so smooth and slippery, the clip moves in all directions (e.g. tilts!!) because of a missing groove. (the Fenix LD20 has a groove for the clip!).

yes i agree that a clip is important on 1xAA lights.

if it's a gift.. then the e03 + clip is a no go imho. even i dont like to carry it this way ;) (only flashaholics consider carrying 1xAA lights clipped to pant pockets lol)

I do own P1A and i love it but my friend wishes floodier beam pattern. Xeno E03 looks perfect (except clip) and it's within budget but this puts things on the beginning.

Perhaps shiningbeam s-mini clip would be more stable (although it does look kind of ugly) http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-67/**NEW**-Detachable-Clip-for/Detail

I'm still considering to change led to xm-l on P1A as reflector hole looks just about right size to fit xm-l dome but i'm not certain how to disassemble it. Even light diffusion film on klarus lens might be good idea...
