(semi) Deal Alert

Picked this up at Fry's today for $10 . . .

The dude on the left is a "V2 6 Chip Dual Color" powerhouse that produces 46 lumens from 3 x AAA batteries. It has a black switch on one side that turns on five white LEDs and a red switch on the other side that turns on one red LED in the center. Somebody told me once what a red light is used for but I can't remember. Considering how bright it ain't, the robust contruction seems like overkill.

Anyway, it comes with a "Nano Tac" keychain light that's good for 2.7 lumens. I opened this little guy up and four AG5 button batteries fell out. Getting them back in turned right side up proved daunting.

It comes with three AAAs loaded in the V2 and three more in the package, along with a swivel keyring. I bet a good part of the cost goes for packaging . . . reflectors for both lights, a little "test it" lever and I briefly considered breaking out my DeWalt reciprocating saw to force the release of the lights from this supermax of blister packs.

And from the University of Fail/Magna Cum Laude - Epic, we have this . . .

What caught my eye, other than the $5 sign on the heaping dump bin full of these, was the "10A MAX" in the bottom right corner. Could this thing really measure up to 10 amps? The leads are the same gauge as cold spaghetti and it read 1.80 amp from my C88 - my Extech MN36 said 3.50, the exact same as Erik's Fluke so, Houston; we have a problem. It did measure the correct voltage on a battery so, there's that I suppose.

There you have it; the $15 flush-o-rama ala Foy.

I loves me some Frys too bro. lol.

Nice pickup for $10. LOL it says right there on the box... red for night vision preservation. IE, won't dilate your pupils

(laughing)

Indeed it does say that . . . and everybody thinks I'm the expert.

Pretty much all multimeters are iffy on current measurements - none of them except the most expensive ones are close to as accurate on current measurement as they are on voltage.

Great value on the lights.

Hey Foy... does the 3AAA fit an 18650, or will it fry?... Is the cell caddy an integrated cartridge and built into the tailcap like some LLs ? I might have to run to Frys and hunt this one down.

My wife EDC'd that little one (eddy bauer re-brand) in pink for 1-2 years. it actually held up pretty well.

On the left is an unprotected Panasonic 18650 - it's too long without a tail cap mod . . .

These are phone pics . . . 3 x AA = 4.5 volts so, I guess in theory an 18650 might work but I don't think there's much that can be done with these emitters. Too bad because other than the plasticy bezel, it's a well made torch.

I put the Nano Tac on my keychain so, I'll see if I can get it all nicked up and pretty.

Foy

Grab a couple 18500s from bestinone or some ultrafires from wherever they fit perfect.

Thanks Foy!!

The thought of modding it almost makes it more interesting then if it was a decent light straight out of the package.

That pink Nano tec / eddy bauer is cute. I'm a sucker for tiny lights... even when they might be weak.

E1320 and i both thought the nano tac was almost better than the mini tac .. certainly harder to get from coastal for 3.50/free/payshipping

very light and handy .. replaced it with a s-1 cnqg and a lithium primary AAA (nice light battery)
