These LEDs seem to have fallen out of the spotlight... so I thought I might ask around about them before I dedicated $$$ to making p60 drop-ins with them (I have 2 L2's inbound which need filling ;) ).
I am planning on making P60 host with the following:
XT-E White
XT-E Royal Blue
XB-D White
All drive at 1A, 20mm boards (cut down to ~17mm) all off Cutter
I will be using TIR optics aimed at maximum throw if possible.
The Questions:
Has this been done before? I have search around but have not found. If someone has done so I would love to know if the exercise is pointless before proceeding with any purchases.
Is there a good cheap source of P60 pills (minus reflectors) sub $2 each (I currently only have 1 empty pill and want to keep the price of the build to a minimum).
While I am putting an order in at Cutter is there anything cheap I should include? :~
Because someone needs to test them! I’d put yhem in a normal p60 host with a regular lens and compare them to the curreny leds we have. Shoot try them at 1.5a. Who knows.
Then I shall be testing my high lumen Nichia's in P60s. I know what testing means. I have an Osram p60 at home that I love to use time to time. For the new Cree's, Maybe they are indeed shooters with their small cores. They look like good value emitters already.
The die is so small, it seems they would throw farther than the xp-e2 at equivalent current. High run currents do not usually make sense in real world, anyway. For toys, yes. Not tools. (Esp. above 700 ma in any battery form factor.)
I am guessing, tint issues like the xt-e had, killed the xb-d. ?
