nah, not a bit. It isn't like I have the $350 to drop on one right away (and I already have a heavy barrel and a standard). This just tells me they're not going to turn out junk just to meet high demand
I am a huge 10/22 fan,it was my first gun when I was 9 and I got 20 years of trouble free service out of it before I gave it to my brother. I really wish they made the take down version with the bull barrel. They have cheapened them quite a bit like everything else, but the trigger pull is an easy fix. I have seen some really tricked out 10/22s at the range, what a great piece.
Back when I was young and 10/22s were cheaper than dirt, I used to shoot one a lot. Very accurate little gun. Haven't picked up a gun in over 20 years. I miss it.
I loved my 10/22's when I lived in Alaska. I outfitted both of them with cabela's folding stocks, scopes and several 25 round clips. What I loved the most was that, back then, bricks were around 9 bucks. I had a lot of fun and killed a lot of ptarmigan and grouse with those. I really miss all of my Alaska big boy toys.
Oh, sorry. I wasn't as clear as I should've been. I didn't mean enthusiasm for the rifle itself, just that you shouldn't get too excited because there might be a long wait. Perhaps "temper" would have been a better choice in words than "dampen".
I do think that if you already have a 10/22, or two in your case, that a folding stock will get most of the compactness without shelling out several hundred just to get the extra 8" (that's what she said). I tend to think that a $50 for a Ramline folding stock and $300 in bulk 22lr may be a viable option for a guy who has two 10/22s. Just a thought.
On the other hand, there is never anything wrong with purchasing another firearm (or two).
that's a valid point, but in my case, I like the two stocks I have.
I stripped the finish from my standard stock, dyed the wood dark green and partially sanded it out to bring out the grain. I also removed the barrel band, reshaped the forend and glass bedded the barrel/action. The heavy barrel is a laminated stock and I think the a folder would throw off the balance.
also, for a pack rifle, I'd like stainless (my standard is blued).
edit: ya know, a folding stock on the takedown would be ok though!
I have a box of 10/22 parts - basically 2 or 3 of almost every part except major components. I ordered them all at once. Just in case......since I've never had a part break. Someday I'll wear the receiver out out on my standard ;)
for anybody that's got a 10/22, this is a must have, especially on cold days.
I had one of those and it did a very good job especially since I had about 8 - 25 round mags. All this gun/rifle talk makes me jealous. Hawaii gun laws are probably the worst in the nation. Here in Hilo or even the whole island of hawaii -- only 1 - yes 1 - person has a conceal carry permit.
try hiking just about anywhere in the US that there are other hikers and see if they don't give you the look when they see a rifle strapped to your pack...
heck, until recently, you couldn't legally bring a weapon to most national parks - even if you had a ccp
I couldn't believe the signs at the boundary when I took my first trip to the Olympic national park. No weapons - right next to the sign instructing you to beware of cougars and throw sticks and rocks at them if you see them. So, of course I took my Taurus 608 and left it at the tree.
I've had black bears and coyotes visit my campsites (before I had dogs) - and I have been told by NYS DEC officers I shouldn't bring a gun camping or boating (though I'm sure they don't all have that opinion).
They REALLY don't like my sawed off single shot 12ga - but they can't do much about it since it is 1" longer than the minimum (barrel and overall).
Well, I have one receiver and trigger group, two barrels, and about six or seven stocks. It started off as a stainless steel 10/22T that I purchased when they first came out. The grey stock started out as a factory green laminated stock, but, I stripped it down, reshaped it, and, since that picture, refinished it in a walnut color stain. I can convert it back quite easily to the T configuration. I'm hoping to buy back an older blue 10/22 that I sold some time ago and move the refinished laminate stock and tapered stainless barrel over to it.
my heavy barrel has a hammered finish. I just couldn't resist it when I saw it. beautiful. It shoots nice but it only goes to the range...
nice job on the stock. did you remove the buttplate? I like the plastic one (as opposed to rubber) - it doesn't catch on your shirt if you bring the gun up fast.
I’ve had my 10/22 for about 20 years now, and my uncle about 20 before that. If I remember right, I found it was an early 70s rifle. 40 years box stock and still a performer. I have a bushnell 3-9x scope on her. Bought a tactical inovations rear charge upper a few months back. Planning on a kidd barrel and 2 stage trigger kit and a siloette stock to finish her out. Hoping to get into some small bore siloette compitition. Love the lil 22s. I’ve also got a mark I that I can’t seem to find much on, and a mark III 22/45 Target/hunter model, an old winchester bolt gun from before the days of serial #s, and a few other 22s in the collection
