DQG Tiny III

R5 - http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1053

R4 - http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1076

Not sure what the differences are from version II.

The R4 is NW and R5 CW?

Any chance of group buy? Or should I just get one (or two...) before they run out?

For that price I would rather get the Illuminati TI Al, 115 lumens on high vs. 60, 3 modes, not that much bigger and ships from US.

The DQG III is making me drool.

I need roughly ten of them, but know I shouldn't get more than one.

Ok, maybe two.

ordered and paid.... only difference to the II is in the tail part...

says "Will get back in stock around 10th April. Pre-order is available."

there *are* changes between AAA III and AAA II but Ric hasnt updated the photos yet on the two webpages (maybe because of missing stock duh)

you guys can go ahead and preorder it, thx.

since stock is limited, we folks cannot wait for someone to order, receive and review it. so we have to order based on trust (brotherhood start with reliability -- oops sorry for my poor Engrish) or based on Ric's updated photos. I will wait for the photos; if by then stock is sold out already, then i will live with it because these days i am totally amazed by my new f e n i x l d 0 1 (runtime tests on high: 1h37min!!, and typical and integral brightness clearly higher than Lumintop Worm SS; unbelievable the "72 lumens" release 4 version), 14g, 30months warranty, so i need to realize what my gains with the Tiny III (same weight!) are: shorter length, new beam profile, scratch resistant, impact resistant(?)...

oh well.

Maybe it wont eat o-rings anymore?

I would be in on a group buy on this I am thinking. I have really liked my DQG AA that I have.

it's supposed to come back in stock next week.

From the samples of DQG III, no big difference compared to DQG II.

1. The beam of R5 version is pure white and flawless; has no green tint like DQG II any more.

2. Threads are more precise and smooth. That makes it wont chew the O rings any more.

3. The slot on the tail is deeper for 0.5~1mm, So do not worry the GITD or magnet will be pushed out.

4. no battery rattle any more

This is a limited batch, Price including gift box and claw. We have no way to compete the price with other AAA lights in the market.

Thanks

RIC

You don't have to compete with other AAA lights... you have the DQG... there is no competition. ;-) (at least for keychain use)

A group buy with a little discount would be nice none the less. Or shave at least 1-2 bucks of for people who don't want the claw.... I already have one. ;-) Or put 20 more O-rings in my package instead for my old trusty DQG II.

because i got a bit disapointed by the recived foursevens P0 i had to order this little one right away :-)

of course R4 NW!

Time for a joint cooperative CPF-BLF-one-big-group approach?

It'd cost extra to take off a bunch of clips and repackage lights to sell them cheaper; does not compute.

Does that mean that there is still no dedicated o-ring groove ?

Hello James,

There is a O ring grave to fit the O ring.

Ric

Hello Ric,

is the keyring attachment point the same as before ("a wire")?

oh oh , I already have a DQG with built in o-ring grave (RIP = rest in pieces, o-ring).... I really hope you meant "groove".

By the way, that flimsy looking keyring attachment point works really well for several months now... I think it is called "piano wire"?

Why is there such obsession over this light? As I pointed out there's better lights out there.

for me it is the size. on my keychain, the smaller the better

edit: .. and to quote a decent member of this forum: "as we are on BLF, why dont get both" ... :-)

Hold one, you'll see. :)

I wear one around my neck daily.

Where? I haven't seen one... there are lights that do 1-2 overall aspects better for a keychain light, but they are worse on 3 or 4 other aspects.

Just look at the illuminati you mentioned... first it needs 10440 to reach that mentioned brightness of 115 Lumen.. on Eneloops it's more on the level of a Preon 1 (~70 Lumens I assume).. I might make a citation by selfbuilt here:

"Note that I do not intend to do 10440 Li-ion runtimes in the IlluminaTi, since not officially supported. As always, I discourage use of this battery source in all lights that lack a protection cut-off circuit. And based on the ridiculously bright Max output on 10440 shown above, I strenuously recommend that you do NOT attempt to run this light on Hi on 10440."

OK let's look further

DQG=current controlled, TI=PWM controlled;

DQG= available in different tints (CW,NW); TI = CW only

DQG = available with glow dot or magnet; TI = detachable/reversible clip

Dimensions

DQG

Measured size and weight:
Length: 56.6 mm
Diameter: 12 mm to 12.6 mm
Weight: 25.1 gram with eneloop (12 g officially on CNQ)

TI

Dimensions: Length: 67.6mm / 2.66” - Diameter: 13.7mm / .54” - Weight: 14g / .49oz

runtime 90 min on high (60 Lumen) DQG / runtime on high (~70 Lumen) TI for 54-60 mins

So the DQG is smaller, lighter, more efficient, current controlled, cheaper, has more options than the TI ... hmmm did I forget something? ;-) The Ti is bit brighter than the DQG by roughly 10 Lumens on Eneloops. And no, I will not go into the comparison Eneloop/10440... for that I have my Brinyte PD03A which is reported with LD01 output on NiMH (80 Lumen) and way,way above that with 10440 (130-150 Lumen)... if it doesn't go... poof.... or kaboom.

Just read the reviews from selfbuilt and HKJ (1,2) and tell me if I missed something.

Or use a lithium L92 primary in the TI, still brighter than an Eneloop then. The tint on the Ti while CW is still warmer than a 1A bin, nicer than my BC40 or P-Rocket for sure. The other features I don't care as much about, personally will stick with the Illuminati.

I have a Maratac AAA SS in bead blasted which has a similar exterior to your TI. I absolutely agree that the ITP/Olight/Maratacs/TI are the better "fifth jeans pocket light" due to having a great clip and a nicer keychain for the belt loop. In that scenario size is not that important. But on a keychain there is no competition imho. If you like your TI and you want it to stay that way.... never buy a DQG. It is not a nice feeling when you receive a light that renders the previous 8-10 purchases in that class you made just before... obsolete. The only real major flaw the II had was the o-ring thing. I wanted to wait out the first reviews on the III... but with that low production count and that high anticipation level on BLF and CPF ... I had no choice but to order it blind and just hope that George of DQG has solved this issue. This thread might also be of interest for people who are interested in the DQG.

Non-rechargable batteries are not an option for me, as I sometimes use my DQG as emergency bike light in a pinch and the lithium primaries are insanely pricy here in Europe.
