6*XML fully driven!! :O

There are bunch of budget 6*XM-L, 7*XM-L out there, but now we know that if we want to drive 6*XM-L with full power we need that MASSIVE volume of heatsink, and that called a heatsink!!

And that's why Trustfire TR-J12 and so on are not driven with 3A on each LED, can't blame them as a budget light and such a small heatsink...

2100, how about your 2xDRY for 5000 OTF

I want it to be in 1 package. So patiently waiting for "Super DRY". Sealed I mean the 6xT6 drop-in and host are already there. I am sure it will come one day.

2xDRY = $160

Custom made handle that holds both and has trigger that operates both tailcaps = << $400

admittedly, this olight can probably sustain output much longer.

The olight would be attractive at $3xx and probably irresistible <$300 - but that's just mho

That'll cost you..... Twenty two thousand dollars!!!!

Well the price is $590, i guess when it hits the streets it'll be ~500.

Isn’t that off the Weird Al “Fat” video? Yo ding dong man, ding dong! Ding dong yo!

That's a great looking package- a real workhorse. The price for the quailty and set-up I thought was reasonable, considering it's a real 5000 lumens.

That said, and I don't raise this to put down the Olight X6 which is a great leap forward in multi LED output and fantastic if you can easily afford it- but wouldn't a 85w HID more or less equal this? It will cost you around $160-190 for relatively the same output and similar run time?

I don't like it's small reflectors, it looks like 6xP60 dropins (with better heatsink). I mean, for that price, reflectors should be a bit bigger.

If only DX didn't have limits on their 'deals'...

for $500 I could have bought 25 of the HD2011...AND 25 CGR18650CH

drill and aluminum block for interference fit, jam them all in there - 15000 lumen and what, maybe 1500 on low!

ok, i'm being silly

sorry, been studying like mad all day, brain feels like jello

Definitly need a shoulder strap for that one!!

Since it's IPX-6, wouldn't it has better heat dissipation when sunk into water? :P

Nope-from an old Aamco transmission ad.

I'll assume the X6 has 5000L OTF (833L OTF per LED, that's pretty optimistic actually but doable).

Not sure about the 85W, the 65W models is around 4000L OTF, usually 3500L. We purchased quite a few of them but only 2 in my house.....one is brighter than the other one. The 100W ballasted carry-handle type of lantern lights are about 7000L OTF with a 100W bulb with 5mm arc gap (about 15% lower with 55W bulb but we use that to get more lux due to the shorter 3-3.5mm arc gap) but with enough juice for the input, ie i did that with a 2 x SLA 24V input (it's a 30V max input ballast). Coz there is a bit of voltage sag to account for, and the ballasts don't operate that efficienctly with lower voltages.

Moreover the thick uncoated glass lens is cutting down about 9-10% of light already and the reflector another 20% more? Generally this is sending about 80W to the bulb with a 12V 7AH and somewhat slightly more with a 2 x 12V SLA input. Usually the efficiency is about 110lm/W at the bulb.

To a certain extent unless you are going way above specs, long arcs like it when you overdrive them and the heat is not an issue as HIDs need heat, LEDs hate the heat though.

Still waiting for 120W or 150W automotive HID ballasts....hope they'd come from China/Taiwan soon. If there is demand and Taiwan makes them, you can bet on it that China would follow suit. And with supply there will be demand. You can't use metal halide ballasts, different strike voltages not to mention vastly different input requirements (and inverters aren't fun).

For slightly below 900 bucks US i could have a 1kW and about 20" diameter (actual aperture slightly smaller) advertising searchlight delivered. Not sure about candlepower but you can be sure that it is easily above 10 million CP, the question is "how much" as nobody has done it and these chinese stuff is sometimes "frowned upon". Power it with a genset or UPS. Not very portable though and i don't have the space.

Most folks here would baulk at the 1k usd cost, but seriously i am sure there are more than 30 folks here with LED flashlight collections which are significantly worth > 1k usd and a few would reach 5k includ batteries/chargers/meters etc....and yes they are budget lights + DIY stuff. Just dig out your paypal account and calculator, you'd be surprised and heartpain after that. My heart actually felt pain when i added it all up...

is this thing brighter and throw further than HID???

Theres also the part where you have to plug it into a giant freaking battery pack or a CAR outlet or generator or something.

I mean, hell. Just get a Stanley 35W HID for 72 bucks if you need that kind of light output in a huge lantern form.
