If only some seller will start listing it as a standalone without the battery & the charger.

I'm going to put the charger through a few more chargers to make sure its all good, then I'm going to use the box, the charger the A8 came with and buy a cheap 26650 torch, throw in a trustfire 26650 battery since they test well and give it away as a gift a nice box set for some brownie points. To me the torch and battery is worth the price.

Hey benckie.

Nive work.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the stuff you've been contributing to the forum & community lately. It is much appreciated.

And I see the point about not being a bad bargain at all. Battery/charger alone will set a guy back around 20 so in all fairness you get the light for something like 24. And it is a good looking light for sure.

I really would love to see the update when you get another driver in it. And also a beamshot or two (I am a sucker for those!)

Anyhow - just wanted to say thanks. I can definately see a lot of work, effort and time going in to these articles you write. TY Smile

Ive been trying to take beam shots for a while now and no matter what settings i use i just get a white blur, my camera is on the way out, it used to take nice macro shot,s but now its hit and miss even with auto focus. even my pictures in my opening post are not that good some are OK, some just really bad and i took heaps and heaps of shots just to get them.

The way i see it is even a solorforce L2 is $14.50 USD for a bare host a decent drop in is $16.21 USD Total $30.71 USD with poor heat sink and heat transfer to the host from the drop in, the A8 the led is mounted directly to the head and it handles heat well IMO.

Then add the cost of a decent battery $10 to 15 USD Total $35 to $45 USD.

Then add the cost of a holster $2 to $6 USD Total $37 to $51 USD.

Then add the cost of the charger $5 to $15 USD Total $42 to $66 USD.

Then add the cost of the gift box $3  to $6 USD Total $45 to $72 USD.

Thats just for a 18650 L2.

I have brought a few 20 to 30 buck lights in the past this is much nicer in finish and build quality plus the added run time of the 26650 cell (thats actually a good one), its worth much more then $24 too me. For a similar 26650 light you would pay $35 to $50 just for the flash light shipped in bubble wrap.

To me this is a great deal for the price, nice light, decent charger great protected 26650 battery that tested to 4300 + mAh at 3 amp discharge, even with out the charger too me its a bargain and a great looking light but thats just my opinion....

This is a real nice light.

I've been thinking about the Trustfire A8 or the Citycat M6 1x18650/26650 from CNQ, which is a little over $30.00, but you get a choice of tint and modes and also has the 8*7135 2.8 driver installed.

I'm curious to see how your driver swap works and then decide which to get.  Great review, thanks.

With the driver swap im getting an extra 0.31 amps with it in single mode only with a redilast cell, but ive done some thing not right or done some bad soldering as im getting flicker now.

Well I swaped back to the stock driver as I had a couple of issues with kd v2 driver like flicker and cutting out I checked the soldering I might of got it to hot, or got a bad one, but it was most likely my soldering or I put to much pressure on the driver with the nylon driver ring. The stock driver is working well like it did new.

Hi! New here. Just want to thank everyone for all your contribution & hard work; which I've enjoyed reading & researching. Smile

Anyway, just curious about how bright is this A8, compare to other Trustfire/Ultrafire Single 18650 cell, with about Mfg rated 1000 Lumens lights? Some BeamShots maybe?  Thanks.

Hello and welcome

Post number 7 might answer your question as i compared to to a popular P60 drop in of the same size, the tint is a little nicer on the A8 when white wall hunting. I'm sorry i can not take beam shots.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Cool Kids?! I thought you guys are the "BRIGHT" ones Wink!

Still got lots to learn. I'm sorry I still have no idea what is "tail cap", "current @ 1.20 amps", "mod" etc yet. The 3 things I do know are simple: Bright, Throw, Flood.Laughing Ha Ha

Trying to learn more from all of you. Thanks.

Na I'm not a bright one as i need lights for that, but a tail cap is using a digital multi meter as the torches tail cap (switch) and it shows a ruff idea of how much current the light draws mine did 1.2 amps but i suspect its more like 2.5 + amps 3 is a safe Maxim, your eyes could not tell the difference between 2.5 and 3 amps, it is to get an idea on power, my readings are normally very low due to cheap digital multi meter. Mod means modifying light or its suitable for modding. my performs better then this popular drop in of similar sized reflector ultrafire 3 mode drop in if you brought one i think you would be very happy with it,

Thanks for your info. Don't mind me asking: So, the more current draw or bigger amps number, the better or worse? Please forgive my ignorance, but basically I'm just trying to get a "quantitative" feel of what we are talking about here. Say we have Light "A" and "Light "B", "A" shows a tail cap reading of 2.5 Amp and "B" shows 1.5 Amp. What does this mean? "A" is brighter/better? Which one will last longer on the same battery? What other conclusion can I make from this info?  Thanks.

I bought my dad a cheap zoomable 3 x aaa toch for xmas. Since then he has wanted something different with more light. Showing him my 504B host with Ultrafire 3 mode dropin last night he was hooked. Dad, not having any charges or batteries I thought this A8 would be the perfect torch for him. I hope he does not have to wait 5 weeks for it as he's pretty excited. Thanks guys.

Are you going to try another driver swap in this light? I had as much luck as you with my first driver swap but persisted and the second driver, touch wood is working fine. Blinkie modes should be an option.

Dads A8 left on the 28th so hopefully will only be a couple of weeks.

Not my first driver swap but more practice will not hurt, i will do another driver swap in the future but ill order more then one driver next time, I have brought a 60 watt soldering iron thats much smaller then my old 70 watt and i need some smaller tips for my 35 watt to help with these tiny drivers.

The light is still working great with the original driver reinstalled and my wife has been using it a lot to as there is no light out the back near our clothes line, its good she uses it as well.

Steve i think you and your old man will really light the light ! please post the current draw of yours if you can get it off him to test as i think my DMM under reading might of put some people off.

Strobe and s.o.s modes some times have there uses but i think like you they should be an option or hidden, but I'm getting used to skipping past them, but lights like this with 17mm drivers are great so you can swap them out if you want.

Here is what i did with my A8 gift box, holster, charger and a protected trustfire 26650 battery. I put in a POPPAS W-878 Flood-To-Throw light and made a nice gift set for my old man.

Sorry crap pictures.

I was happy with the price i payed just for the torch with the bonus of one battery and i made my old man very happy with a nice looking gift set and the torch i included is a good one but cheap and would be suitable for his work.

I had a chance to hold one when I came to pick up my TK70 few days back and have to say this compact light feel good and solid in hand. Really bright as well, dealer said it’s should be around 800 lumen.
I like it so ordered one. Came to get 1 but ended up ordered 3 more…this hobby starting to hit my pocket.
