4 x AA Recoil light from Pelican

Anybody own one of these?

4 x AA, submersible to 100 meters, and it is a recoil light, so even thought it is not a super-thrower (althought 100 meters is nothing to sneeze at), it will have a definite narrow-spot-type beam. Looks interesting...

Nope I don't own one but I love 4AA format lights in the 2+2 like that.

Its too bad there isn't more, the brighter ones are about $70 each.

I think someone would make a killing if they made a 4AA with a XM-L that put out 500+ lumens for $40 or less.

If they can do a TK35 clone for $38, I'm sure it wont be hard to do something just as good with 4 x AA's for the same price or less.

Oops got pretty off topic but I agree, its a interesting light.

I have never used a light under water but at $40 for 70 lumens I would over look it myself, I don't know what the go is with diving lights though.

From your post it's not clear if you were looking for a diving light or not, means if the 100m sub rated is important to you or not.

I've never owned one of these, but as far as recoil goes I have Ultrafires UF-007 and UF-009. They are nice pocketable recoil lights, working on 1x18650 or 2x123, which anyway gives them a lot of duration more versus the 4xAA. None of them is for diving, but they have the usual array of O-rings so for sure they are at least water resistant.

Never seen a Pelican recoil beamshot, but would imagine it's not much different from Ultrafires. Both them throw quite a long distance (I'd say over 200m with ease) and project a crisp image of the square emitter, with almost no side spill.

I've used them at night here in Venice lagoon, playing around in outboard motor boats with friends, it was cloudy no moon, almost pitch black, and was impressed how far we could see the signals on the poles (like road signs, but for water channels)

I'd say that for their size, recoil lights are super-throwers (not counting aspherics). I'd like to have a plastic one that's weather proof and runs on AAs, but can't bring myself to spend $41, knowing that the Sipik CK361 is still < $15 at DX. I suppose an el-cheapo AA plastic light from the supermarket could host the guts of the Sipik recoil light and save around $20, but I wouldn't put it up against the Pelican for ruggedness.

My recoil Pelican 4aa has a GlowInTheDark bezel. Great thrower for 80 lumens. This is what a lot of firefighters around here where issued in the last couple years.
I like the switch because I can slide it to On with heavy gloves on.
This light has been dropped from the second floor onto tile by my motherinlaw and survived just fine.
It will not keep up with an Xpe driven at 250 lumens in a similar sized reflector but the beam is tight with little spill and a unique hotspot

I say unique hotspot because, it’s a fair size at 40 feet with smooth transition too the spill but the spill is almost non existent

Yes I have this light mine has a glow in the dark bezel, and just like Carpentry hero said it is popular with firefighters the switch is easy to turn on/off with gloves, its very durable, and the beam cuts well thru smoke.

I’m not a vol. fire fighter anymore, and I’ll sell this light - if you are interested let me know and I can send you photos etc. it is in very good - not mint condition, perfect working order no scratches on the lens. —KartRacer31
