UltraFire 502b tailcap problem.

Hey guys long time lurker, first time poster!

I have a little problem here I hope someone can help me out with: I have a pretty new 502b that just won't turn off. Fully depressing the button just cycles through the various light modes. Half clicks cycle it too. Pushing real hard on the button, just turns it off while i hold the button down, but when I release it, it goes to the next cycle. When I swap tailcap with a know working 502b, everything is fine. Is there an easy way to fix this problem or am I just stuck with buying a new one?

I could have sent this unit in on warranty however, I decided to scribe the body with my initials, and I don't think the seller will take it back. I did however as that he just replace with end cap, but he wants the whole thing back and not just the cap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

First, take it apart and make sure it's assembled correctly. Also, check the nub inside the silicone tailcap and make sure it's not keeping the switch button depressed; sometimes you have to trim the little nub to allow the switch to function properly.

You can always buy replacement tailcaps and switches from Manafont...

Tried to take this thing apart, doesn't seem to want to come apart.

Any pointers?

I don't have my 502b on hand to compare switch internals... Usually, there's a metal ring inside the switch around the spring with a couple of holes/notches that can be unthreaded to take the switch apart. Use plier with small points or strong tweezers to unthread it... It's usually not that difficult.

Although... After looking at these pics on Manafont, you may have a pressed in tailcap that would require you to press the internals out from the outside end.

As you can see, the replacement tailcap is only $2.86 if you can't get yours working...

Do you have a multimeter with continuity or resistance function? You should check the tail-cap while it's physically removed from the light. Sometimes a misaligned spring can cause this issue when you tighten the tail-cap down all the way so it's best to check it's functionality when it's off the light completely.

Hey guys, thanks for you time!

I finally got my tail cap apart, scratched the hell out of the retaining ring in the process. Upon closer inspection of the switch itself, I notice that there was an excess bit of soldering from one of the posts of the switch, like the peak from whipped cream. It extended outwards to the sides a good 3 or 4 mm.

I filed that peak off, and put everything back together. I guess that small bit of soldering was enough to keep the light on, kuz now it works perfectly!

Thank you for all your time and help!

Had a similar problem. I took mine apart and cleaned all the metal parts of the switch, the threads on the cap & barrel with scotchbrite & then wiped it down with rubbing alcohol. Put it back together & it solved the problem.
