I've spent most of my days in California, but I will be in Hawaii from May 15th 'til the 22nd. Part of my family won a vacation to the island of O`ahu. Most of our expenses will be paid for and I'm really excited. This will be my first time in Hawaii.
I haven't been on a plane since 1995, and I'm not looking forward to post-9/11 air travel. I'm guessing that I can't bring a pocket knife in my carry-on luggage. I may or may not be on BLF very much on the vacation. I'm hoping our hotel has plenty of computers. This should be a very interesting trip, to say the least. Mahalo!
knives in check in luggage only. you can basically carry any size knife you want when you land though. except balisong and auto of course. i carry 4" assisted openers all the time.
You'll have a blast! Go to the beach, explore the island and stay off the computer! I live on the big island and when I have time to myself I go to the beach or go hiking around volcanoes national park. You'll see why they call it paradise.
Wow, that's great rc! I've always wanted to go to Hawaii. My wife has been twice (before we got married). I agree with fishinfool, stay off the computer! Have a great time with your family.
But if you do want to pop on to say hi or post a pic, they usually have courtesy computers in the lobby at most decent hotels these days. At least in the ones I travel to on business, Hawaii might be a different animal.
Well, I got back from my Hawaiian vacation yesterday morning. I didn't experience any jet lag while I was gone, but I am experiencing it now! I am waaaay behind in skimming/reading everything new on BLF; it'll probably take me a week or so to catch up. At our hotel, they wanted twenty-five cents per minute for internet access, so forget that! My sister brought a small laptop, but I need a full-sized desktop/laptop to post anything on BLF. I had a lot of fun in Hawaii. Some of the highlights of the trip were the Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor, and going to the beach and different hotel pools. I can't believe how expensive just about everything is in the Waikiki area. Also the population density is pretty high. However, I did love the weather and the clean air.
I brought a Kershaw Asset for EDC, and a Kershaw Tremor for backup. No problem going through security because they didn't go in my carry-on. I stayed at the Ohana Waikiki Malia. Many hotels in California provide free business computer labs, but not our hotel in Hawaii.
This thread is in Off-topic Chatter, so no flashlight chatting allowed! (just kidding.) I brought a fauxton and a Tank007 E09 on my keychain. I also brought my newest flashlights, a Fandyfire HD2011 and a Xeno E03 XM-L Cool White in blue. I used the Xeno the most, and it has become my new EDC. I usually say how great the UniqueFire UF-2100 is, but as many of you know, the Xeno is way better.
I have no idea what half of that means! :)
Sorry, I don't have a cell phone, let alone a smart phone. I can't even imagine typing on a phone. I have very large hands and need a proper keyboard. However, relaxing is a very good idea. I'll have to try that some day. ;)
I went to O`ahu with my mom and sister. They both took their cameras. I might upload some of my mom's higher resolution photos sometime in the next week. In the meantime, here are some of my sister's lower resolution photos:
Cool pics! I'd love to go back and visit Pearl Harbor again. Last time I was there, which was over 10 years ago, we did a quick drive by because all my wife wanted to do is go shopping.
