100 lumens less, but a better power source and heat management???

I’ve noticed this before, although didn’t really understand the reason of why.

I’ve been looking at the JetBeam RRT-0 as I rather fancy a magnetic ring control torch. I like the look, the style and the output. But I do find the runtimes of my RCR or 14500 lights to be quite low.

What I’d ideally like is an RRT-0, same head, driver the lot, but long enough to take an 18650.

JetBeam don’t sadly offer this. They do offer the RRT-2, which looks similar, but is a more chunky light, bigger in every dimension. It’s also a chunk more money too.

But what I can’t really fathom is this, the little RRT-0 has a max output of 650 lumens. Even the tiny RRT-01 is 600 lumens, but the bigger RRT-2 with a better power source and more metal for thermal management is only 550 lumens? :quest: :quest:

The only thing I can seem to see is the driver in the RRT-2 needs to handle 8.4v from 2xRCR’s. But does this really mean this setup is then a 100 lumens less efficient than the RRT-0?

Maybe because the lumen rating has little correlation to reality?

I think it's just that RRT-2 is older than the others...
