Even the Nitecore Tip manages an IP-x4 rating with an exposed USB port. IP-x0 means you can’t get this thing wet, period.

both have the notoriously green rainbow XP-G3, but that also means both will accept a nichia mod and still be compatible with the TIR
The Ion competes with the Manker Lad and Nitecore Tip, both of which offer High CRI Nichias and also have Yes(fast)PWM. My daughter has been using a Lad for more than a year, it has the most newbie friendly UI Imo… I would buy it again.

Bought it instantly. My only hmm about this is the “naked” usb mini port. Will write a review how it holds in EDC once I’ve used it. Unfortunately can’t afford 2 due to some circumstances beyond my control related to crypto’s. I’d like to have two to keep one in virgin state. Then again, torches are ment to be used, just as cars are. I’ll keep you posted.
You’re obviously from a “Windows” world. Analy just looking at specs. I’m an Apple man and I love the idea. Please read my review after it’s in and I’ve EDC it for a while.
As to the emitters: I personally don’t use a keychain light to check if my sushi is fresh. Or to light the greens in the supermarket, which will be light enough anyway. When I use it, I want LIGHT.
It’s meant to be used in civilian environment, along with your non waterproof smartphone… not in the middle of the rain forest !
Although I don’t use mine, I find it really suitable in a city EDC

A pity, because that would have rounded it off. Oh well, let’s just wait for the 15th anniversary version . In the mean time, it’s the peak of keychain lights. I’ll receive mine tomorrow and if ok, I’ll buy my GF another one despite the price. Do wait for the Mk. II version, though. Which I will buy too (FFS, why is all my spare money going into crypto’s and torches )

I bought one as a gift for someone non-flashaholic. He was impressed with the titanium construction and touch interface. The output is great and visibly brighter than the nitecore TIP. Good mechanical switch feedback.
The sole reason I chose the the ION was because it doesn’t look like a conventional flashlight which would seem cheap for a wedding gift. But I would never spend $60 if it was for me, probably $40 at most.
In fact if they gave this light a “Porsche Design” logo with a price tag of $149, it will sell like cake on the Porsche boutiques, this is how high end it feels.

I think on a forum such as this, to say someone or something is foolish, will make for a genuine discussion. To say that some people belong to a Windows or an Apple world is just a way of explaining things. Let me elaborate. I a Windows world, all documents and presentations look the same. Alle reports, graphs, statistics do to as they are mostly made in the standard formats set out buy Office. In the Apple world, mostly the same happens. It’s not the software, it’s the peeps who use it. Only in the Apple world, it’s easier to go your own way.
Now I’ve been programming since 1982.Fortran at that time I’ve made programmes that reduced the time epileptic patients were attached to a machine (64K memory, mind you) from 45 minutes to 15 minutes. Just by being smarter in using the limited resources of the machines we had to work with.
Which should demonstrate that the Windows peeps didn’t do anything for me apart destroying my SPSS datafiles back in 1988. But your point is taken.

Maybe not the best EDC, but the classiest. Haven’t gotten around to swapping it with my TINI as a keychain, but it’s happy in my pocket.
