The crew just finished installing a 24Kw backup generator in the back yard.
Auto switchover. Auto test and remote diagnostics.
Enough angry pixies to run – well everything - with some to spare if the neighbors need to keep a fridge or two running.
I thus insured that local grid power will not fail, so it will never get used for it’s intended purpose.

That’s a bit of overkill! We’ve got a Powerwall 2 and solar. Most of the year we don’t draw grid power. (We have gas for hot water and sometimes use the gas heater.)
Excellent purchase. Every house not located in a city should have one.
What fuel source?
Natural gas. Should keep going, if the grid goes down, since the local supplier powers all their stuff with it.
Propane needs refilling and during a long outage might be hard to get a refill.
Also lots of restrictions about big tank placement.
Really thought about solar, but need to power some serious AC. For a long summer outage, gas seemed a better choice.
24Kw is overkill, but I wanted no limits as far as running everything. So basically I’ve got the same Kw as grid power.

Yes, the PW2 is 13.5kWh but can only supply 5kW peak. We’ve got a 6kW inverter with 7.1kW of solar panels.
