26650s are for serious ampage output and/or serious runtime. I’d consider them a waste being thrown in a car for months or a year. Plus, I’ve had a good Kong cell completely discharge over the course of sitting for a year and a half.
Your best bet is to get a cheaper 18650 cell (like Trustfire Flames or even “Ultracrap” cheapie cells) and put them in just as cheap lights you don’t care about and stuff them in the glove box. You’ll probably never use them, really. A cheap light with a car charger for emergencies could work, and you never use it enough to worry about safety concerns or performance.
We usually trade cars every 3 or 4 yrs.
Depending on how many miles we use,
Or due to leasing restrictions.
I already own 1 of this flashlights. AMAZING!!!
Way more powerful than my previous Q5s.
I traded my car a few months ago and the Q5
zoomable inside, was in perfect working order,
after 3 yrs in the glove compartment.
Battery voltage (spike maybe) was 4.10V from
an Xtar 2400 mAh. Charged only once.
It was never used though.
Since this light has so much power,
and I will like to have at least 2hrs in high mode,
I’m thinking 26650. I carry 1 spare battery,
but I’m not sure if I can change it in
an emergency.
This light has 5 modes. No memory mode.
The only features I dislike.
I find strobe and SOS unnecesary.
I like using CR-123a lights for emergency-kit use. Those primary cells have about a 10-year shelf life so you don't have to worry about self-discharge over time...
