Just joined BLF, read many fantastic reviews and pulled the trigger on an Acebeam EC50 Gen II 5000K, my second and far from last 26650 torch. My first is the Jetbeam T4. Anyway, I’d like to start stocking a few batteries for these and other lights and would like recommendations on the right/best 26650 cells to use. I’d particularly like to buy protected and IMR high drain cells. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Liitokala are the best 26650.

Thanks, Blue. I’ve been out of the loop for a bit. I see there are a number of 18650 tests. Is there a comparable 26650 test?

What kind of tailcap current numbers does that light pull? My understanding is those high voltage quad-die, single cell lights really pull a lot of amps, so finding a PROTECTED 26650 that can reliably handle the load may be a bit tricky.
Doesn’t that light come bundled with a protected cell? Might want to start with that.
I have had great results with purple efest IMR and older orange MNKE cells which I have had for years. Neither are protected however, and my lights only draw 4-6A.
In regards to testing results I haven’t seen one singular test… your best bet is to search 26650 battery review and scroll through the thread pages.

Its a pain in the neck shipping Lithium batteries internationally. So many of the top reviewers generally seem to be located in or very near to the country of distributing origins for each cell. What that means is limited availability, or at least a long wait… depending on where you live and how each country handles customs. For those of us in the USA, its also a bit of a gray area how our new president will set policy for foreign trade with China.
The 4,200MAh cells… Keeppower, Efest, Vappower, all in the 4,200MAh capacity can push the absolute most amps by a fair margin. The 5,200 or 5,000MAh cells, while alright, cannot push amps like the 4,200MAh cells can. A prime example of these type cells coming into play would be the EC60VN.
EC60VN is a single 26650, 12V XHP35 HI LED pushing over 2,000 lumens. This configuration gets all kinds of weird reactions from any of the 5,000 or 5,200MAh cells. With the higher amp 4,200MAh’s it runs quite smoothly.
I have the older mnke,king kongs, keeppower, and the purple efest gives my lights the most lumens. Although I have heard good things with basen and liitokala.
Choose any of those three, and your golden. No need to research.
Thanks, Papaslightsaber. The inverse relationship between capacity and current delivery is something I understand to be the case. I’m guessing the XPH-70 emitter will draw copious amps and I’m going to put a few brands of cells to the (casual) test.
Blue, the purples seem to come up pretty well in people’s comments.

Just got my Acebeam today from Amazon…Love it! The output is astounding, the beam quality is gorgeous, and the tint is extremely pleasing to my eyes. I’m sure it could be described by some as greenish but it is warm and non-fatiguing. I’m very happy with this and my Jetbeam T4.
