Was recently introduced to this concept in a reddit post about the El Speleo Rescue/SAR headlamp. Then in other internet wanderings I found the Cool Fall Tri-V.
Really interesting concept to me to potentially have three different emitter setups in a single host. Wonder if this is something that would find support if offered in an affordable enthuiast light? Would it be feasible to bring a light like this to the market for ~$100 or less? Is there anything like this available now that is worth buying?
Also, to be clear I’m not advocating for either of the above designs to be ripped off. Interested if the general concept could/should be explored for a broader market.
Flood + Throw is very common in caving headlamps Such as: Scurion, Rude Nora, Phaethon, Pulsarl, El-Spelo and more... (IMHO El-Spelo is the least good from this list)
That is an easy query for the flashlight search engine. Some are going to be 2 in 1 but where the floody beam happens to be warm white. Here is a list of them. For the most part the entire category is other caving headlamps very similar to (and including) the El Speleo. But the Fenix HL18R and Nitecore UT32 are notable reasonable costs exceptions.
There is a much bigger list of lanterns that double as flashlights. It might be feasible to mod these with warm white.
Personally I’d get a warm white thrower and a couple of different diffusers to transform it into either a floodlight or a lantern.
That is a good idea, and of course using filters or diffusers on a regular light would be a lot simpler and more practical.
Really enamored with the idea of having 3 distinct emitters in one light though, and I don’t have a spare $8k to responsibly drop on a Tri-V lol.
Think in my fantasy world it would have something like a 2000k e21a as the floody, low-lumen “camp” emitter, a 219b sw45k for edc, and maybe an Osram in the throw reflector…
I know, I know, jack of all trades, master of none and all that. But a guy can dream, right?
