I have wanted a pair of 4 inch Dial Calipers for 20 or more years …
I had a Boss that had a pair of 4 inch Dial Calipers , and ever since then I have wanted a pair .
So I was on Ebay , and Chronos in England had a 4 inch caliper for sale … ( Well I had to have them )
I have verified ( VERIFIED ) them against my digital calipers measuring externally an internally … And they are near enough to spot on ( Comparison wise ) .
They really are the cutest ( Can tools be cute ? ) …
I’m just glad they measure the same as my digital calipers . Finding imperial calipers , especially 4 inch Dial , is getting to be hard … ( It’s only taken me 2 Decades )
The gauge is from my 25mm - 50mm Micrometer … ( Mitutoyo Digital Micrometer say’s = 24.995mm ) So 0.005mm shy of 25mm Measured @ 20 Deg Celsius
Also this video was shot at a room temp of 20 Deg C
Imperial / metric , samo samo !
10th of an inch / 100 of an inch / thousands of an inch
10th of a mm / 100th of a mm /
It really does not matter … The measurement is what the measurement is … ( I can work with metric or imperial )
Its when you try to work with an imperial measuring tool and then convert to metric ( Why do that ? )
If your strictly metric , buy metric tools .
No the calipers are not made in England …
Chronos imports from China ( Chinese made tools ) and then sells in England .
Chronos was the only seller on Ebay with 4 inch calipers ( Imperial Dial ) , not sure metric 10cm Dial calipers are easy to find either .
Anyhow , so I had to buy from England ( Chinese made 4 inch calipers )
Back to metric imperial …
0.01mm = 0.0003937008in
You can generally round to the nearest half thou depending on just how much accuracy you need .
Digital calipers are simply fantastic , because they do both at the push of a button .
I just wanted these because I wanted them 20 years ago …
And they are as cute as the dickens !
