40W LED emitter host, body... heat.

When suppliers change or discontinue it’s possible to pick up dies that you never thought you’d buy. That’s how I ended up with well over 5k worth of UV emitters I never figured I’d own.

While there are a number of very complex, very important safety considerations for operating these dies I would like to not focus on that at the moment but instead on how to handle the heat produced by the rather large and complex multiple emitting surface.

Given common OTS parts, if you had to grab a host body with a large chunk of aluminum / copper to handle the heat for a very large head (I have NOT found a deep dish reflector yet save for custom made ones), what would you turn to and look for?

I’m being a bit vague, and I apologize for that- I’m trying to garner a large set of options without pushing anyone in a particular direction. I hope you’ll understand.

Thanks kindly!

So how many do you plan to run at once, and how many watts each, would be even better if you told us what leds you have. many different hosts available, 40w is not much, is it total, or per 1 led?

It’s a single LED chip. I guess there’s really no harm in posting it… just a single MCPCB on Copper that has a ton of dies and is around 40V (give or take).

How do I power it? Don’t care  If the host can take an extend tube I’d be finding a bunch of 32700s if it fit it. If it doesn’t, I’d integrate it into another body. Power and current aren’t my concerns so much as how the hell do you move all that heat out?

(Yes, heat pipes, I know, I use them in a variety of places, but I don’t know any hosts that have integrated heat-pipe chambers / screw on top to push it down into the body for radiation…)

Diodes like this are really specialized. I’d probably run it at very low currents for safety etc- but have the massive ‘kick’ tied to either a switch (key) lockout for extended boost. I’ve looked at a couple of the super advanced 8 band LED emitter drivers as a possibility too (I have several of those as well) but haven’t decided.

Convoy L6 host will be pretty close to your needs, mtn electronics sells those. as for driver, taskled makes good boost drivers.

I/m familiar with those leds, those are old led enging leds, the only optics build for that led is no good for uv, it blocks anything under 410nm, i'm not sure how a reflector will work with so many dies.
