King Kenny, Fast Freddie, Steady Eddie, Randy Mamola, Sarron, rocket starter Ron Haslam in the push start era… a lot a lot more back then… I still remember Phillip Island, Gardner rode really really hard dispite with both broken faring bracket… with Kanemoto tears in the garage, that was really amazing achievement no doubt.
Then came Kevin Schwantz, demon on the brake, Suzuki back then were no match in top speed for those Hondas & Yamahas, but he requested good brakes & corner stability to face off circuit sparring partners, Wayne Rainey, John Kocinski, Michael Doohan & the rest, it is very enjoyable to watch 500cc GP back then really.

Rainey and Schwantz had some fantastic battles back then. Had me glued to my tv. Although Rainey had more overall success Schwantz was always my favourite. 8)
Erv Kanemoto was one off my heros. He seemed to win championship after championship with different riders. It puts a smile on my face to hear how much they hated each other as competitors. Doohan went on to win 5 world championships as a cripple. These guys were tough.

Too bad the 2-strokes were phased out. I rode an 89’ Yamaha TZR 250 for quite some time, & it was a real wild ride - those 500’s would have been absolute animals

Schwantz sliding around Monza was sensational.
He’s coming out of retirement to ride the Suzuka 8 hour this year.

A mate had an RG500. I have memories of getting a grubby face from the oily mist coming from his exhaust and waiting around for him to refill the tiny tank many times on day rides. I never wanted to ride something with a powerband like that.
