Thanks, Don. I couldn’t find any Camelion but I did find Panasonic Evolta, and thought I’d found a bargain until I realised they use the same name for their alkalines!!
I must say I do like the striking “eco” styling of their rechargeables. I wonder how they will rebrand eneloops for worldwide distribution.
And IMO, not in a good way. The Eneloop branding made for the most elegant cells on the market. I liked the Sanyo look and the more prominent Panasonic branding is a very, very bad idea IMO. But nobody would pay me more than a cent a month for my design skills.
I like simple and austere.
Most of Asia doesn’t.
I’ll pay a bit more for better design. But it does help that Eneloops are just about the best NiMH cells out there - there may be better, but I’ve no idea what they are.
If Panasonic demean the Eneloop brand, that’ll be a sad day. I don’t care who makes them (unless it’s BTY who make garbage) as long as they perform like they always have. The day they don’t I’ll replace dead Eneloops (<90% nominal capacity) with whatever is better. I have more than enough NiMH AAs so it won’t be any time soon.
I love the simple look of the eneloops, and the Rouge and Disney sets look great too. As I speculated in ChibiM’s thread, perhaps the rebranding is to appeal to a wider audience who are familiar wth the name.
I do wonder, will they stop their Evolta line here and have the plain Panasonic logo eneloop instead? Or maybe they will try some new eco-style design.
