- It has been a long time since I been active here due to medical issues, stress, financial issues, among other family issues I been dealing with. I do still check in when I can, but sorry for not being as active as I once was in the past years with the BLF LT1 project, the Old Lumens custom contests, etc. I always hope i can recover enough to make a come-back. As for the BLF LT1 project, I have developed the LT2 lantern, but with a lack of correspondence from Barry & Sofirn some years ago it got tabled but the design is still in my files of i can find a possible new manufacturer wiling to take on the project. For now, I just wanted to poke my head in the BLF room to say hello and i miss everyone here & the passion of why we are here. DBSARlight / Den Barrett.

Hey Den! Welcome back! Im sorry to hear of your struggles and hope you are able to find some relief. I still think of you every time I click on one of my LT1ās, which have all received a great deal of use. You put a lot of yourself into that project to please others and most of us will remember the level of detail you put forth in seeking perfection.
If youāre ready to reengage, maybe you could create a new thread and post images of your proposed LT2 lantern to gauge interest. If demand is there, a mfgr might be will to step up. My interest would be a larger brighter lantern with generic 46950 battery support, with optional carriers for 4 x 18650 or 3 X 27100. If not, thatās OK too! Mind yourself first. Again, great to see you.

Sometimes BLF reminds me of those small Dutch towns.
Ten houses, three churches and two cafĆ©ās.
Once in a while someone proposes a new light and asks for some input.
Thatās like opening the floodgates. With special wishes for every detail.
You can call it a lucky day when two members share the same wish list.
Then you come with your lantern proposal and slowly work you way to consensus.
And when itās ready, the "butā¦"s fade away and almost everybody is very positive about it.
Rome was not built in one day. And neither was you lantern. But both are here to stay.

I finally got a production model BLF LT1 just last month! Kinda crazy I never had one until now. Itās the current model, with a nicer MCU (attiny1616) and downgraded LEDs (looks greener), but itās still nice. I fixed some bugs in it which have apparently been there for years because I never had the hardware to actually verify it works. Have been meaning to send it to Sofirn, but I wanted to try some new things first.
I still use my lanterns pretty frequentlyā¦ basically any time I would use a candle, I grab a lantern or two and put it in candle mode. Will often have it going for hours. I also use it any time I need to charge a set of 2 to 4 married cells, since itās uniquely great at that. Iāve got a ton of lights, and most are basically retiredā¦ but my LT1 is going to keep getting used for a long long time. Itās legitimately one of the best torches ever made.
Would be cool if theyād make a 46950 model and use nicer LEDs again, and ideally even upgrade the driver to a dual boost circuit for extra efficiency. Something like that could run practically forever. Or even just bring back the 1x21700 models and fix the issues they had.
If you want to make a LT2 and manufacturers arenāt responding, I wonder if you might be able to work with Hank. He doesnāt have a lantern yet, and heās consistently good about quality and support, and he has some unusually good-looking LEDs lately and really efficient drivers. The D3AA and KR1AA, for example, manage to do about 150 lm/W OTF, even when using high-CRI LEDs with negative duv.

Like most others, Iām still getting a lot of use out of my LT1, amazingly, Iām still using the collapsible silicone bowl I bought off AliExpress as a lamp shade, I thought it would be dead long ago.
I saw an STL file recently to print a holder so that magnets can be put in the tailcap, so Iām toying with that ideaā¦
Also use my Wurkkos CL01 regularly, Iām genuinely convinced that without the success of the LT1 (and, to an extent, LT1S), no other manufacturers would bother with lanterns.
LT2 could be interesting depending on format. I know the directional āwork lampsā available nowadays are sorely lackingā¦ Soo a quality light in that format would be an instant buy for me.

Me too. Itās indoors at the moment, but most use of my LT1 is campervan lighting indoor and out. The runtimes make it a no brainer compared with the single battery Sofirns.

Original first version LT1 on the bed nightstand for years. Charge the batteries maybe three times a year. Love even the lighted switch as it gives moonlight glow against a nearby wall, sort of use it as a locator of where I am in the room in pitch black.

@ToyKeeper Thank you! -The LT2 is not much different in design than the LT1 except it has a red-LED channel, (with simple three modes if possible with your Andruil-LT1 firmware, or the red modes can be a separate switch-button. Also planned was a āAmberā LED mode, to simulate a flickering camp fire or Oil Lantern. Battery was to be increased to the 21700 format for increased run-times for longer power outages or weekend base-camp use to run on High mode for longer intervals between charging. (and have higher capacity for the USB-C charging option as use as a power bank.

I donāt have any devices that use 21700 at present - never really felt the need. My ābiggestā light is an Acebeam K75 and it uses 18650s. But if an LT2 with 21700s becomes a reality - especially if someone like Hank makes it, Iām in.

Did you see the LT1S Pro? It has warm, cool, and red LEDs using Anduril.
So yeah, it can work, and most of the work is already done.
The user can enable or disable a few āchannel modesā, and then use āOn ā 3Cā to switch between them:
- warm/cool white adjustable blend
- automatic white blend (starts warm for low brightness, gets cooler when brighter)
- automatic red+white blend (red then warm then cool, by ramp level)
- red only
- white blend from channel mode 1, but with an adjustable amount of red added
I generally have 1+4 enabled, so 3C switches between white and red. And I use 2 or 3 in candle mode, and 4 in battery check mode.
Channel modes can be whatever. I generally try to include whatever mode seem useful, while also keeping the number of channel modes reasonably small.
The LT1S Pro used kind of an unfortunate chip for regulating the red channel though. It uses PWM and canāt go very fast, and the driver components are a bit ringy, so the pulsing is audible.
