A Lurker Emerges into the Light

Lurked for years, now it’s time to join the community.
A question, I have several reviews pending and am curious as to the ideal size of photos to link to. I want to avoid photo bloat.
Do most of you specify a size % in the link screen, or do you specify the size like 500 pixels wide by (whatever), or do you size the original in the link (say at Flickr) to the desired size?
Also is the place to practice posting in the thread RC started about posting instructions?

Welcome Jeff!!

That thread would be a good one to test posting but it’s pretty simple. I highly recommend Imgur for your photos and just incase you’re not aware, you want the share codes which give you the root image. If you simply copy & paste the Imgur page it will only give you a link to the page. The actual share code gives you the root image code (see below)

As far as image size goes, if your image is super small such as the meme at the bottom of my post that’s typically fine. If your image is larger than about 250 pixels wide then it’s highly recommended you use the width variation. Images like the large screenshots below I’ve used 100% and for memes or random stuff 40-80% is usually good. Without using the resizing option mobile users encounter a ton of annoying multi page wide photos

Thanks for the welcome. The link about sizing posted photos was most helpful.
It makes sense to me to limit the original size to something reasonable to keep the bandwidth usage down, then use the formatting tools to keep the image “inside the lines” as it were.
Matteaores, I’m afraid I’m already in the last stages. The BLF Q8 was my downfall.

lol don’t worry. just get used to saying “this is my last light”.

FYI about the bandwidth: even though the image is formatted to adjust to the screen size it still loads to the full file size which is hard on mobile/slow connection users. So if you have 4K photos or something then it’s definitely best to re-size prior to posting.

Most images are at 1080P scale from what I can see. If you wanted to show off 2k or 4k maybe just post the link rather than embedding the image into your post
