I recently received the Wurkkos TS10 Max. Overall, I like the light and I don’t really understand the negativity directed at it on this forum and elsewhere. Sure, there are things that I would change if I could but, as is, I feel that it’s pretty solid, especially at the price point. The TS10 Max’s one unforgiveable sin is the pocket clip. And yes, some judicious work with pliers has improved its action.
Nevertheless, mediocre and worse pocket clips are ubiquitous in our flashlight community, both on budget and even on more high-end lights. There is hardly a flashlight out there that can easily be clipped to your pocket without the intervention of your off hand. The popular dual-sided clips, available even on lights where their inclusion makes no sense, are among the worst offenders.
In my opinion, among the clips with the best action is the Convoy screw-on one (surprising because the other available Convoy clips are pretty poor), but it’s method of attachment is so Mickey Mouse that it virtually excludes itself from consideration. (Please, Simon, please. It can’t cost that much. I’ll pay the price. Give me two holes in the tail cap opposite the lanyard attachment point. I’ll even thread them myself, if necessary.).
This situation would never be accepted in the knife community. Every knife, even low-end ones, are expected to have a decent clip. Clips are considered, by both manufacturers and users, to be an integral and essential part of the product. In that world, an otherwise excellent knife will be rightly shunned without an excellent pocket clip. We need more of that attitude here. So, I look forward to the day that I read a review that says: Buy this light. It is well-regulated, has good runtime, a nice tint, and a great pocket clip.
By the way, I realize that many of you don’t want or use the clips on lights. That’s fine and this rant is not directed at you. But maybe you would use the clips if they were any good.
There. I feel better already.
