A site EDIT or rather sites, tracking online prices and changes at sellers

Started with this one.
EDIT, decided to make it a more general topic, hoping for better suggestions than the one I made

http://track.thebestofdx.com/

“flashlight” works as a search term on that page

Individual item pages include a link that says “If you want us to tell you if the price of this item changes click here!”

Also note it says (I’m not including the hotlinks here)

Now whoah, slow down, I don’t know ANYTHING about this website other than that i just stumbled over it.

So be skeptical, watch for trackers and trojan horses and advice that will cause you to explode if followed. You know, usual precautions.

Might be useful though.

Sigh. They have a link to this: http://www.dx.com/p/stylish-fighter-cree-q2-copper-flashlight-cr123a-5438
Cute. Flashlight with shiny copper-colored band around the middle. Who’d think of that?

Oh. It apparently sold out sometime in 2008.

So, check the dates on stuff.

I found the search function to be very difficult to use. It found certain items by SKU numbers, mis-identified other items by SKU numbers. It found some items by partial name entries, mis-identified others. Cutting and pasting the ENTIRE product name seemed to work - but generated false prices.

And they list a lot of items that are not in stock.

I don’t see much value to using this search facility.

Yeah, that’s DX anyhow, they keep a lot of stuff listed that’s out of stock.
FAsttech does the same thing.
Of course they want the clicks and hope you’ll find something else to buy.
Drat them.

okay, here’s another place doing a similar thing but for Amazon prices, and actually is keeping current:

camelcamelcamel.com — will track your Amazon wishlist, and keeps a longterm chart of prices (which vary amazingly for very brief periods)

So you can set an alert to email you only when the price on something drops as low as it’s ever, briefly, been some time in the past.
