So I can connect this one cable to the big balance port (the one with 7 pins) on the Accucell 6 and that will allow me to balance not just 6 cells BUT also 2 - 5, if I choose to? So I don't need to use the other smaller balance port on the charger at all?
If this is right, then all I need is 1 JST-XH 6S balance cable and that is it? I can balance any number of cells up to 6?
Yes, but you need to do some rewiring. If you take a look at the balancer port/pins, you will notice that the first pin is labeled as "Gnd", the second pin is labeled as "1" and the third pin is labeled as "2" and so on. If you plug in you balancer plug, you will always match the Gnd pin on the plug to the Gnd pin on the charger. The numbered pins correspond to the cell numbers.
This is trickier than it sounds but there are wiring diagrams on the internet that can show clearly what I said here with just a picture.
Thanks Price! Yes I understand now. I wasn't sure before because I thought if you wanted to balance say 2 cells, you would have to use the right balance port (i.e. smallest one) on the charger so it can detect the right number of cells you are trying to charge. By the looks of things, the big balance port can charge any number of cells (up to 6), so I will definitely take that approach instead of buying 5 separate balance cables!
The charger does not detect the number of cells based on the type (2S, 3S, etc) of balance plug connected. It ain't that smart yet. Instead, the charger guess the number of cells connected by detecting the voltage of the pack, hence the charger will ask for your confirmation on number of cells before it start charging.
If you plug in a 2S pack and set the charger at 6S, it will still go ahead and charge it then *BOOM*
I put an xt60 plug on it and I have made adaptors so I can use it on a car cigarett ligher, battery clips or on a little switch mode pwr supply (like a computer monitor)
