Acebeam E75 question

I’m considering the Acebeam E75, but it looks like the electronic switch is surrounded by a piece of clear plastic that acts as a power reserve indicator. I’m concerned at the longevity of a piece of plastic which is easily scratched, grazed and cracked. None of my other lights have exposed plastic. Several of my Sunwayman running lights are covered in dings from being dropped.

The alternative is an Acebeam L35 2.0 with some translucent film to soften the beam, as I prefer a bit more flood. It too has a plastic power reserve indicator, but it’s recessed in to the metal and hence protected.

The plastic surround on the E75 is frosted so it won’t show scratches or grazes unless you really gouge the heck out of it. Because of where it is it’s unlikely to be damaged by dropping the light unless you’re really unlucky and it lands on a rock right on that part, and then I’d be more concerned about damage to the switch itself.

Thanks Chris. I’m still surprised that at that price they build a tank then install a plastic item.

What else should they have used? Clear Aluminum? Glass?

Modern plastics can be extremely resilient, so don’t worry about it.
Also the area where your thumb sits usually is not the area that is subject to massive wear

They make hard hats out of plastic, and bulletproof screens…

They could have LEDs beneath a semi transparent rubber switch cover, or a small window recessed into the metal, so that it cannot be damaged in normal use. I’m concerned about dropping it onto gravel and rocks.

They do, and my ice skate and roller hockey boots are carbon fibre. However, motorbike helmets and bullet proof screens have to be replaced after one impact.

I don’t know what to tell you, I don’t believe it to be worth worrying about.
