Acebeam EC65 ghosted after maybe the first time charging it.

My EC65 with pretty low usage went poof. It happened when I turned it on after what was maybe the first time using onboard charging. I may have used the onboard charger once before with the original Acebeam battery. This time, I was charging it in my car with the components in the picture. The setup has charged my phone many times, and the cord came with my Motorola phone.

Here’s what happened. The battery was somewhere 3.6-3.8 volts before charging. The light was charging with a red light for about an hour total. When I arrived at work the next day, I unplugged it and pushed the button to test it quickly. The light flashed on momentarily and immediately smoked a bit. That was it, stinky dead light. The battery was at 3.8v after this so I’m not sure if it ever charged.

The only unusual things that I can see are the battery has a slightly dented positive terminal, probably from an E07, and there’s a slice in the top of shrink wrap. I’m at a loss as to how that slice occurred. I used this battery/light combo for a few hours at least, including the day before.

I didn’t get a lot of use out of this $120 light.

Battery partially inserted:

That's an expensive circumstance.

I don't know what happened, but I feel sorry about your situation.

The dent on the cell doesn't look too bad, but that might have been the problem.

I'll let others that know more than I do speculate on it.

I’d take it apart, but I don’t know if that would void the warranty.

‘You killed Kenny.’

Send it back and keep your fingers crossed.

At $120, it’s worth the expense for shipping.
