This is definitely an issue that I experience with mine too. During a minor emergency I literally spend 10 seconds turning the thing around and around and poking at all the different ridges and fins trying to find the totally flat button.

That’s like 80% of front switch lights for me. I never recommend them to people who may need them in a stressed situation (with a few exceptions like maglite etc).

I am thrilled to see the X80 bumped up though even if it’s only a few seconds sustainable. Acebeam is going to have to do more than jump the output to capsize Imalent though. The marketing on that DX80, slipping it into the hands of multi million subscriber Youtubers has really positioned it well in the market.

Ive seen dx80 used in some science demonstrations and non flashlight channels where there are millions of subscribers. Cant remember which ones though

It would be capable of it with 4000K XHP50.2 emitters. If pushed to the max, this light could produce 60k lumens, but I’m not even going to dream of that at this point. No doubt it’ll get hot quickly, but that’s reasonable for a soda can light.

Keep in mind the current requirements for 60k lumen. 4 x 18650 will not do it. That is the limitation. I’m skeptical the X80 GT can do 32k lumen. Especially if it uses 4 of Acebeams 15A protected 18650.

That post was by KG_Tuning. If you read this thread, his recent posts about lumen measurements caused a bit of commotion. I wouldn’t fully rely on his measurements until he gets a Maukka calibration light.

I measured 22,300 lumens using the Texas_Ace calibrating tube for the X80-GT.
For reference my X45 managed 10,100 and DX80 20,000 (I binned the garbage)

I suspect Maukka will get closer to my turn on reading of 29,000. Maybe a tad more in fact as he usually hits a little higher than me.

I don’t know about the DX80, but if you keep the handle on the X80-GT it’s comically easy. The button is opposite the handle.

I grab it like this: Holding X80-GT - Album on Imgur and then once I get it to the setting I want, I hold it by the handle.

If your hands are too small to hold it that way, keep the handle on it and scoop it up with your thumb like this: Holding the X80-GT part 2 - Album on Imgur and your finger naturally rests on the button.

I’ve made a new integrating sphere and turn on wise I get this:

MF01 9500
DX80 13200
X45 15800
X80 24000
X80-GT 36000

EDIT: I now have it down to 33,000 @ turn on after blocking a little spill from hitting directly over the sensor, the other lights remain the same as their flood wasn’t so wide.

It’s not direct drive, but other driver types can still benefit from a reduction in internal resistance.

Who knows, it might produce a few thousand more lumens.

I’m guessing it only takes button tops? I guess you could always solder blob flat tops as well.

Some of the best high drain include the Samsung 30Q and Sony VTC6.

Yeah, most companies making a 30,000 lumen light would use 8 x 18650 (Astrolux MF03, Imalent DX80). Only 4 cells is impressive (for 25 seconds, at least. )

What impresses me more is that those cells must have 20A protection circuits. I’ve never seen them that high. I’ve seen a few cells using 15A circuits, but that’s it for 18650’s.

Yep, the Acebeam site shows they have a 20A circuit. Really expensive suckers as well.

I always measure higher lumens with the Sony VTC5D vs the VTC6. You lose aoubt 200-300mah with the VTC5D though but it still has more capacity than the VTC5A.
