I think you guys are barking up the wrong tree here. The only thing this one does better is faster charging. The Anduril version can be had for $50 or less, and is better in every other way. The two biggest problems with this version compared to the Anduril version are Sofirn’s signature timed step down combined with a fixed temperature step down, and no real low/moonlight mode. I predict very little interest here unless it’s way cheaper.

Will this be a buck/boost driver? What will the runtimes look like? If this means stable output independent of cell voltage, it’s a bit interesting, but the bump up to 30 lumens for the lowest mode is still a bit high. And will it have a shortcut to low, or an option to enable/disable mode memory?

I think your right, there’s a 2 mode SP36S for $45, and i don’t see why this one would be very off from that price, there’s already a better one, the SP36 BLF Anduril, for $5 more with better UI and better thermal regulation

If I am not mistaken, Sofirn designed and released the SP36S due to some (or a lot of?) customers feeling overstrained by Andúril's complexity. The BLF edition has probably not sold as expected. I also guess that the SP36S is a product related to Barry's recent thread about customers complaining about too much excess heat while using a flashlight. With 55°C and 2min stepdown in place, Sofirn maybe wanted to address these complaints.

My conclusion: The SP36S is not meant to be THE ultimate BLF flashlight but a mass product for less experienced (Amazon) customers.

I can confirm that the SP36S is capable to charge with up to 18W (12V @ 1.5A), i.e. QuickCharge 2.0.

I have no special insider knowledge, but this is what I understand also. My guess is the 'Unlit Masses' who buy from Amazon are not usually the ones willing to learn the incantations necessary to make an Anduril light sing. And, about the only thing more expensive that selling via Amazon is dealing with Amazon returns.

Heck - I even find myself cursing special modes and wondering which interface is on whatever light is closest when I need it.

I like Anduril lights for myself but I would never gift one to muggles. Everytime I let someone borrow an Anduril light they always comeback quickly to me because they entered some blinky modes/settings. Simple UI is smart for the general market. However, I did not buy this light because of the greenish LH351D tint. If Sofirn can shave the emitters, that would drop the DUV to below the BBL giving it a very nice HI CRI tint. I would buy it. However, please don’t add 2 minute auto step-down and please don’t glue the threads!
