If you choose the NS53A you shouldn’t try to save 2$ on the batteries.
I bought the 30T just because of this light. I don’t know about the prices in the US, but I got them for ~$8 per piece (bought 5 for 31.49€) including shipping from germany.

Send the article-number to HKJ, maybe he will test those batteries.

I have a hard time believing the Efest 26650 5000mah can beat the 40T in output. A 5000mah cell with performance like that would have been much more well known. Though I do wish it is true as it will make 26650 lights much more interesting.

When my MF01 Mini came in I had the Efest batteries waiting for this light. I ordered the 40T’s Thinking they would be amazing over the Efest. They arrived the next day and I was excited to try them out. With a full charge from my Miboxer C4 12 I installed the 40T and went straight to turbo. Now I am still learning on how to test light intensities with my meter so I was testing for lux and the flashlight kicked down really fast like 21 seconds with both cells. So I installed a fully charged Efest, 5000mah was a mistake, sorry. They are the dark purple 4200mah 35A continuous draw with a 50A pulse rate. They kept the MF01 on turbo way longer and when measuring the lux output was considerably higher. My 30T’s should be here by Thursday but I am not expecting much since the 40T’s are rated higher. I would love to get some real numbers but I have no way or knowhow to calibrate my 3’’ light tube. All I know is my real world tests by tacking them out into the field and daily use, I was interested to know if anyone knew the Molice brand. If there cell numbers are true or close they would be great for flashlights. I am still fairly knew to this amazing hobby/obsession so please be gentle. Batter up

The Efest 26650 purple 4200mah pushes a bit harder than the Shockli when fully charged but quickly drops below the Shockli for the rest of the discharge curve. The Efest is much weaker than the 40T at 20A. I think the reason why you observe the light to be brighter with the Efest 26650 is because the light doesn’t step down as fast since the Efest doesn’t heat up the light as quickly as with the 40T.

Regarding Molicel, Mooch rated their P42A as the best all-around 21700 and the P26A as the best all-around 18650. Molicel is an excellent brand but they don’t make 26650, and I recommend not to use any 21700 cells until it is confirmed the longer length will not permanently crush the springs (reduced spring length). If you don’t mind that risk and want to use 21700, the P42A won’t output as hard as the 40T for the first 15% or so of the discharge curve but will output higher for the latter part of the discharge curve. I have the P42A and 40T. When fresh off the charger, I measure higher lumen output with the 40T so if you are interested in max output to impress people, I would go for the 40T, but for practical use, the P42A is slightly better. The same can be said with the Molicel P26A.

Here is a battery comparator by HKJ so you can compare the discharge curves of all cells tested by HKJ. You can see the Efest 4200mah is no match for the 40T or Golisi 4300mah.

Thank you for your knowledge, this helps me big time! I don’t mind paying top dollar for cells but with so many unknowns and overrated numbers its hard to know which brands to trust. I did noticed the Efest took longer to heat up the flashlight then the 40T. I’ll stick to the 26650 cells because I would hate to damage the Mini. One quick question if you do not mind. Which 26650 cell do you recommend for the Mf01 Mini? Thank you again

Because my cerebral cortex developed inside-out during gestation, that is, the second layer of six layers of cortical neurons migrated through the first layer, leaving neural connections as they want, and the third layer migrated through the the first two, and finally, the sixth layer of neurons migrated through the other five, my brain has decided that this light, and the Nitecore TM9K single cell 21700 at 9,500 lumens desperately need to be side-by-side review compared with each other. If I can't search and find where this has already been done before I get a chance to do so, I will be first.

Anyone know what the physical difference in the drivers between the NS53 and 53A are? I ordered an NS53A but received an NS53. I see a connectable star on the base of my driver but surely that can’t convert between the two…

Oh, there’s so little information out there. Could you find me some more info about when Neal mentioned this? His website hasn’t been updated. There’s a new NS53? There’s no difference between the $50 and $55 version on Neal’s website then?
