We are such traditionalists here in the flashlight world. I was thinking about the Ultrafire HD2010, pictured here thanks to JohnnyMac
Now picture this same light if you turned the battery tube 90 degrees. Yes, 90 degrees, so that the light was shorter, but about as wide as the head all the way back.
Now put a big hole in the middle, so that I can put my fingers through it and carry it by the battery tube. It would feel nice, because the weight of the battery would be centered right in your palm.
Now put a thumb switch at one end of the battery tube so that I can turn it on and cycle the modes while I still have my fingers through the handhold.
I think that would be a nice light. Easy (and short) to store head-down, strong , and user friendly.
Not a light you would put in your pocket, but I bet a lot of people would buy it.
I think a angle light would be better and you could hold it the same, have the button in the same position but the head will be to the end and no need for a hole in the middle.
It would probably have better heat sinking too.
Something like this out of alloy with a larger protruding head.
Ezarc, that was kind of what I had in mind but with more rounded lines from the battery to the head. An 18650 battery is only about a 1/2 inch longer than the head of the HD2010, so add another 1/2 inch for the switch and the light would be fairly compact, but still have the flashlight beam of the HD2010.
You could put the reflector a little lower and put a flat on the bottom of it and the light would stand like and angle-light. It would be a very unique piece.
